Hi! So I’m a second year student and I’m recruiting . I have so many different companies reaching out and I’m So conflicted. I have: - investment bank (think citi, etc) - a boutique and specialized consulting firm - big tech non-eng Corp side opp - legacy media (think nbc, Viacom) I come from legacy media and went to business school to change. I wanted big tech. I love the world of tech. However, I am conflicted about whether I should start in tech right away or take two years and do IB or Consulting. (Yes, that means having to prep for both in short time lol. I may have to pick one out the other). What would you do? Some are saying just go straight to big tech . I like biz ops roles and would like to get closer to Product (Product marketing). But would it be okay to go to business school and not take advantage of opp to be banker or consultant? I need to focus my time and not be torn between such vastly different options #consulting #finance #career
I just want to caveat that I tried to do banking last year and struck out. I did 8 dif firms and didn’t get the job. Idk if I should risk holding off on other ops to try again this year and
Do big tech now. Half of everyone in consulting is trying to exit to tech anyway. Getting a coveted product manager role during bschool is easier than when you're a consultant. Don't do IB, you don't sound too interested in it, and the exit options are more narrowly finance oriented. At least consulting has a bigger variety of exits. And target MBB and tier 2 xonsulting firms. A random boutique won't do wonders for your resume unless it is maybe Alix.
This is good perspective. The role is what someone from consulting would usually fill. The consulting firm I’m talking to is super focused on TMT. They are esteemed but small. Def don’t have the same brand power as MBB or even Deloitte
Pick 2/4 to focus on. I recommend Tech then consulting.

What did you do you internship in? Most MBA peeps I knew had a pretty focused idea of what they wanted and used the internship as the main pivot, which set them up well for the FT job.
I did my internship in corp strategy at a media company. I switched functions. But I want to do big tech for full time. However, I have been presented with many options and am unsure if I should go straight to tech. Or if I should do finance or consulting
