I met a guy at a conference who told me that he has never created a resume. He mentioned that a resume is only necessary at the beginning of your career. Later on, as people get to know you and you keep your LinkedIn updated, that's enough to attract new opportunities. He said that you don't need to apply for jobs; instead, opportunities come to you. I'm wondering if this is true after 10-15 years of experience, or was he just boasting? YOE:2 Tc: 145
Opportunities may come to you sure, but you still need a resume for those opportunities if you decide to apply
Incorrect, haven't had a resume for decades
He is flexing or at least not working at any reputable company. It's definitely true that networking becomes far more important than your resume as you progress in your career, but to not need a resume at all is an exaggeration.
He is BSing
True. No need for a resume or LinkedIn. And exec recruiters never ask for a resume. Nothing to do directly eith yoe. Many interviews are just dinner meetings as well.
Depends how in demand your skills are, how much you are being paid in your current position, and how good you are at networking. Personally, I have opportunities come to me all the time, but they all are trying to pay me 60-80% of my current TC and are therefore not worth my time.
