Uber Eats is the biggest ripoff ever!

Added two BOGO items and have Uber One, but it still comes up much more than in-store order everytime. šŸ˜‚ The item mark up, taxes and fees are unexplainable . Finally you also have to tip their drivers 10-20% on the mark up because they donā€™t have anything left after paying their world class engineers. Stop ordering from Uber Eats and switch to Toast or Clover.

How do you think Uber became profitable even after paying millions to their engineers in a low margin business?

ex-Amazon $me||ybutt OP Apr 3

Thatā€™s true. But the mark ups werenā€™t this significant even a year ago.

It's crazy. I once bought $200 worth of stuff at Costco, came straight home, and added the exact same things to an instacart order. It came to $400 with tip. Suddenly I don't mind going to Costco anymore.

Doordash is no better. Honestly, I am fine paying a service charge and tipping the drivers but the markups on items really annoys the hell out of me every time.

True. Thatā€™s why I was highlighting how Toast is a better alternative for pick up. Sometimes restaurant dont pick up their phone or ask for cash when I get to the restaurant šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Roblox mJCo55 Apr 3

I have never had a "cash only" problem. I confirm this before ordering from a new restaurant. Although, some places offer a small discount on cash purchases which I am always happy to avail šŸ˜

Or, stick with me here, go get it. Tiny tip suffices, the food is warm, you know when it will arrive home, and it's much cheaper.

ex-Amazon $me||ybutt OP Apr 3

Even for pick up, sometimes itā€™s easier paying through Apple or Google pay without having to wait in line and swipe your card at the restaurant. Iā€™m only ordering going forward from restaurants which use Toast or Clover.

I love ordering online and paying for pickup too. I'm just too cheap to pay the upcharge for lukewarm food at some random time at least 90 mins from now.

We make Amazon prime now, wholefoods and fresh customers do the same for delivery šŸ¤” //Finally you also have to tip their drivers 10-20% on the mark up because they donā€™t have anything left after paying their world class engineers.

I bet itā€™s not even close to Uberā€™s mark up. That Special was priced $96, when it was $80 in store.

Amazon padayappaĀ©ļø Apr 3

Iā€™m talking about the tips. Not the mark up.

Google alpaca šŸ¦™ Apr 3

Maybe have you considered picking it up yourself? Ubereats business model depends on lazy asses

ex-Amazon $me||ybutt OP Apr 3

I was trying a pick up because I had Uber One and the restaurant wasnā€™t picking up the phone. Toast also allowed online ordering for pickup without the mark up.

Amazon 321stonks Apr 3

The only reason I was using it was because of amex credits. Just go pick up chipotle or something after a workout.

Chipotle is filled with calories šŸ˜³ unless you get the salad and protein only.

The worst part is that the in-store menu prices are also affected by this.

ex-Amazon $me||ybutt OP Apr 3

Of course. Pretty sure restaurants recognize they can charge more and get away with it. On the other hand, customers might stay away from a restaurant assuming itā€™s super expensive, when it isnā€™t.

World class engineers Thanks my friend

ex-Amazon $me||ybutt OP Apr 3

Youā€™re welcome! I donā€™t blame the engineers, my friend. Every scam has an amazing technology behind it.

It's kinda shady to blob taxes with "other fees"
