Hi all, Have potential offers from 2 companies. Here is my profile: YoE: 12 Intuitive Surgical: Base: 200k RSU: 220k Sign On: 10k Annual Refresher: based on company perf Annual Bonus: 20% with multiplier Apple: Base: 190k RSU: 160k Sign on: 70k Note: updated on 06/24
Is RSU 188 per year or over 4 years? Im assuming 4
vesting period is 4 years.
Annual bonus == entire RSU grant? Wow
not guaranteed, but it will be close to it.
This is a very good offer from intuitive. The annual refresher is 188k and annual bonus is 20% with multiplier, to correct your statement. Annual refreshers tend to be around 100k to 130k or so, could be a lot higher for specialized people. Unless you get it written in the offer, i doubt they will give you 188k as annual refreshers. Your TC is 300, waymo will likely offer a lot more at the same level (if sr. Engineer).
i am looking for some cash at this point, can Intuitive offer sign-on for any reason I can imagine
They can offer north of 20k if they like you. Always ask for it.
I'd go with apple is I want stability, with waymo if Im ok with navigating private equity. What's the level/tc you're targeting at both these companies?
Apple is IC4 upper band Waymo is L5 Intuitive Surgical - not sure what will it be with 12 YOE, it hinted near staff engineer (though this role is not there)
Ok nice! DM me if you wanna chat more about waymo. I recently accepted an from them.
How’s intuitive surgical doing these days?
Their growth looks awesome
Intuitive Surgical is an outstanding company. But Intuitive has a very small share in the medical device industry (Leaders: Medtronic, J&J, Zimmer, GE). Don't just consider TC before deciding. I would not prefer Intuitive from a long-term stability standpoint. A lot of consolidation has happened in medical device industry over last 5 years. Medical device companies are increasingly facing regulatory and pricing pressures. Small players like Intuitive will face the heat more than the leaders.
@wNvl84 I got affected due to recent layoffs. @RRUh52 Waymo has no chance though it's leading compared to other players in the same field ? GSuite is a successful product I agree... A question I have how would Waymo justify stock when trying to match up to other companies?
IMO, it is hard to determine whether the technology is ready to scale. Also it may take time to be a successful business even when you have a mature technology. waymo stock price is decided internally. They will convince you it will go up significantly in the near future.
Okay! Got it. Any banter on the IPO timeline if there is such a plan ? And how is the job security?
In my opinion you ought to pick whoever pays the most, or whatever you would like to pursue. Self driving is exciting, and humbling. And an incredible journey of learning over a large set of topics. Writing code is the lowest common denominator. On the other hand working on next iteration of GMail or Apple Mail could be equally exciting. Or scaling stuff — Amazon’s tagline for last 20 years. Waymo will succeed. In one form or the other. Equally others will succeed as well. This isn’t a long drawn ideological discussion. Pick whichever makes you happy, for whatever criteria you have - money, work, etc.
Role?
