I did 10 onsites in the last 2 months but mostly got back with a very close response. I always messed up the design round which I have very limited hand on. My experience is around 2years and 10 months. But I’m put on loop with design questions quite heavily. I have good understanding of components but suddenly encounter a never met before system question I always don’t give “deep enough” answer. Seriously how do I know what the interviewer wants me to focus on. I don’t blame them but I do want to learn how to focus on the right things they are looking for. Uber,lyft,stripe,amazon,apple,microsoft,google,2sigma,twitter. Got “very close” call 6/10... “i want to keep in touch with you to circle back in 6 months since you did impressive work in most rounds”... I don’t feel like I can go on any more.
Well I think if you look at it positively, you precisely know where you are falling short and need to focus on that part. I think you if you put in some more work in the missing area, you should be getting in (may be in a six month period)
Thank you for the good words. I’ve been trying to prep on system design from grokking and applying their problem solving pattern but still didn’t get the offer. Could you point me to your favorite source of sys design?
How you know you aced all coding rounds or some behavioral rounds ? Most never tell any feedback and some tell vague feedback .. close etcetra
Deep is how deep? What was the expectation and how deep do you go? For sys design
Sound like my questions for the interviewers not for me
Haha.. how did deep do you generally go before you throw up your arms?
Try YouTubing the videos “success in tech”
You would fail if you follow this video. In real interview normally they would go deeper and cover more edge cases.
This is true. I feel like they want to touch on each part really deep
I did and applied but still failed
Did you ask for money back from them since you applied and failed?
I hear you, that’s quite depressing. On the other side, you got 10 on-sites which is not that bad after all. Half of the list you posted didn’t ever respond to my applications (10+ years with medium-size distributed systems).
Reduce the number of years. I think they prefer mid level more.
You didn't work for a half of a month... Nice.
Yes Im not working
Take 2 weeks break and continue, you are very close to get an offer.
Yeah thats what I’m doing. Thanks!
You mind sharing how much leetcode you did? Im on a very similar boat as you are in terms of experience and where I wanna go next
Personally I dont think the count matters. It matters whether you understand all the questions you went through. 200 so far for me
Sounds like 0
1. A company I least want to go to. Actually I declined one well known company from last year since I have 10 interviews line up. It was a bad decision. They both tier 3 just like ebay, so I just want to give a shot at those were on the table.
