1.5 to 2 crore annual comp offer achievable in India?

Planning to apply for a principal PM/Pgm/TPM roles in India and have a question - is 1.5 to 2 cr range realistic to expect? I know for sure that 1+ cr TC is doable (through network) but I am not sure if 2 cr is within the realm of possibility. I almost thought that’s not possible but then I saw few blinders suggesting 1.5-2 cr is something they have heard in their network. I want to move but also don’t want to get low-balled by either the recruiter or worst myself! Would really appreciate if anyone has real factual data points on TC from Amazon (L6/L7), Microsoft(L65+), Flipkart(no idea what level) etc. (TC = Base+Stocks). I have already looked at Blind threads but it seems more of speculations than factual. Also like in the US, are there reliable salary comp sites in India? thx
YoE ~12, TC ~360.

SDEs and data scientists with 10+ yoe are easily getting 1.5+ these days. The max TC I have heard for 10+ recently is 4cr..

Fricking hilarious!! Amit Agarwal, head of Amazon India, made 3.3 crore last financial year and you want us to believe a dev made 4 cr. awesome!!

Lets ignore the 4 cr for now since I know I am not worth that much anyway. Which companies are shelling the 1.5 cr offers you referred above.

@not_iSheep, stfu if you know nothing. I talked about TC. Go look at Amit's stock compensation. @ScrewQuota, PMs aren't worth that much. They are paid around 50l. A few here and there may get 80l with 10+ yoe.

Not sure about 10 but I remember seeing 12. Check some jobs from Amazon on Naukri. Not sure if Microsoft matches or beats. But the real question is if 1+cr is something they are openly advertising, then what’s the upper range that can still be achieved realistically.

Actually that’s what the post is about....I myself was in disbelief until I heard anecdotal from 2 folks. Of course they may be exceptions but that’s what I want to verify and not shoot myself in the foot when negotiating.

Ola and paytm will be heavy on options and paper money if that can be considered ..

Difficult to get 1.5-2 cr in India. L7 PM/TPM will be less than 1.5 cr but 1+ is possible

I know TC of many SDEs... For extrnal hires, L6 SDEs get 0.9-1.1 cr.. Getting hired as L7 SDE is rare, I have seen only 3 in last one year but no details on exact TC.
PM/TPM salary differs based on org compared to SDE

I know a couple of L7 PMTs in India and their total comp is approx 1cr, don’t know the exact comp but +/- 10% from 1cr. Don’t know the break up between base and stocks

If your TC is 360, then you’re already making almost 3cr. Don’t quite understand what you’re looking for here.

The TC is inflated due to stock appreciation and about to get done with vesting over the years. Afaik, no IN presence for FB else its a no brainer for internal move.

I think lots of folks count 4-5 years equity (that too paper equity) while "telling" TCs. I would be really curious to know the breakdown of that 3cr offer :)

Except Walmart, I haven't seen people adding 4 years stocks to calculate annual TC.
At walmart, few of my friends and fee blinders got confused initially.

Haha. Yeah. I hate when / if people add multiple years of equity (and at times at future valuation) to calculate their TC :)

1.5 Cr+ is very doable at Amazon for L7 PM roles
    Sep 28 4
    • New inmann
I doubt that (but you will know better since you are in Amazon) because I know in US the base salary cap in Seattle is 160K so base salary in India probably can't be more than 80L or do they not have any base salary cap in India? If base cap is 80L are you saying year 1 cash bonus is 50-60L ? Since year 1 stock has to be low at Amazon as it is 5% vesting only? Or are you calculating 1.5Cr including 4 years of equity?
      Oct 3
    • Amazon haveitall
I’m stating facts. You are welcome to doubt if you wish. You get joining bonus in cash for the first two years prorated by month to make up for lower stock vesting. So yes 1.5Cr is very doable at L7 in IN for PM roles
      Oct 3
    • Amazon haveitall
My TC as an L7 in Year 3 is 70L base + 1Cr in RSU vesting this year which makes it 1.7Cr
      Oct 3
    • New inmann
Got it. That split is helpful to know and understand the comp.

I know a friend in Flipkart, at senior EM his base salary was 1 CR, bonus of 20% and stocks more than 50 lacs per year. Here its 1.7+ cr per year.

1.5 Cr is definetly possible in top 0.5%ile in 10+ years age group.

These EMs get high salary but actually don't do anything.. This is true in india.

Definitely not close to 1cr for L6 TPMs at Amazon. Most of the L6 TPMs are closer to 50lpa, I know one who moved to Google because of lack of promotion. Google offered around 75 lpa, good guy with ~15 yoe.

Is it recent data? Things have changed fast in last 1 years (atleast for SDE roles)
      Sep 2
    • Apple not_iSheep
This is mid 2018 data. From what I know, pretty similar for TPM family even now.
Any data/ example for changes in the SDE family?

    • Amazon goldfish_
I have posted SDE family data in the main thread

I am not in PM or TPM so without disclosing role or company, 12 yoe and total annualized compensation including (annualized) equity will be around 1.4-1.5Cr so it is possible with right experiences and right seniority levels. If it helps, my role probably maps to L65+ at Microsoft since I am familiar with their levels. But this is on the higher side based on my other interviews, experiences and negotiations in past. So I think to draw 1.5Cr+ you likely will have to pull off a very senior position, or have a large component in paper equity or be in a niche skill area that companies such as Amazon will want to pay for since they have deep pockets and India is a key market. Also, note that the taxation at this level is higher (and higher for lump sum stock comp)

PM, TPM, SDM principal TCs are lower then IC in tech. If you can switch to IC or even SDM, 2 Cr is tough if not impossible. Don't forget tier 2 companies.

    • Amazon goldfish_
2 cr is tough in tier 1 companies but ~1+ cr is achievable.. You can get more in startups but with paper money
