Wow, I cannot even believe this is real life. This is not what the US is about! You start denying people entry to the country to study at our universities because of their Facebook friends’ posts, and we’re going to have such an incredible brain drain you’ll hear the sucking sound in Topeka.

MAGA indeed.

If he supports Hezbollah or Hamas he should absolutely not be allowed into the country

But this isn't new, like at all.

America used to reject people all the time for anarchist, socialist, or communist associations. We need to see exactly what was posted on those social media accounts to know if immigration made a reasonable decision.

Apparently it is if they add their parents on FB. Amateur move, sure, but if they can be held responsible for FB friends’ posts, then it follows this would be a similar scenario.

Thanks. Got anything worthwhile to add, or would you care to do the needful and GTFO?

The takeaway here is factory reset all electronics before traveling. Just tell them you got new devices for your move. Have nothing installed or open on the phone except a pornhub link to a porno based on customs agents. Just to keep 'em on their toes.

No, sorry, extraordinary claims carry a burden of proof. Claiming that 15% of the entire world is going to bum rush our door if we open borders is extraordinary, to say the least.

You are factually wrong. There is no reason to suspect that a billion people even want to come to the US, unless you have actual data showing otherwise. Your claim that 1 out of every 8 people in the entire world would come here is absurd.

Do I need more? Isn’t arguing that it’s morally wrong to lock people out of the country for bullshit reasons enough? If you can pass a minimal background check that consists of no serious criminal record and not being a billionaire, as far as I’m concerned, you’re in.

No, I do not have to explain how a billion people aren’t going to show up here because that’s prima facie absurd. You want to make that point, make it. The burden is on you to show that 1/8 of the world population even wants to live here.

Don't really see the phrase used anymore except to mock the stereotype of people who would use it. Well I guess the programming is lagging behind.

The very first entry to US is usually the strictest, since the subsequent reentries rely on the judgement of the first. So, yes, you have to be on your absolute best behavior. Also we only hear his side of the story, which can be exaggerated. For example, maybe he 'liked' those posts or maybe he had his own posts and then deleted them before contacting lawyers.
Regardless, it is border agent's sole discretion who to let in.

Do you have evidence he’s not being truthful? Do you think this scenario is so improbable it couldn’t have happened? Given all available evidence, the simplest conclusion is that it happened and that his description was largely accurate. Or, do you not believe in Occam’s Razor?

No court will hear the case from one side only, except for the court of public opinion. You jump to conclusions either because you are emotionally lead by the news article or you want this to happen so it aligns with your worldview of evil border agents.
All I say is calm down and let them figure it out.

This isn’t a courtroom and I don’t see a judge anywhere. I am simply saying the most likely scenario, given available evidence is that it happened substantially as described. Yes, that’s bullshit, but that’s a completely different point.

In current era of sensationalism I do not trust ANYTHING at face value. Especially, if it aligns with publication's bias (either side).

Lol, I love when snowflakes delete all their posts in my threads. Smells like victory in the morning. I guess a billion people wouldn’t just come stampeding through the gates if we opened borders after all, would they?

  • This is stupid. Imagine you add some seemingly normal guy from high school on fb. Years later they turn out to be a white supremacists. You have nothing to do with them but then you're denied entry to other countries and treated as a mass shooter. America is full of racists smh
