3 months in. How bad of an idea is it to move?

I just joined Apple 3 months ago. The exact same role opened up at Google. I am not an apple guy but I took the job as I needed to move on from my previous company. And funny thing is I am an Android/Google guy. Apple culture is as bad as blind says and my comp isn't great (TC 185k including sign on for 4 YOE). Would my resume look bad with just 3months? also risk pissing off Apple..

Why even put it in your resume if you're going to leave after 3 months?

Can't have a blank chunk of 3 months..

Microsoft Qoxuyxfe Oct 22, 2018

I think you can have a blank for 3 months. Don’t have one for more than 6. All relative though. How old are you. Hopefully 3 months is less than 10% of your career

Classic : leap before you look. Get Google, Dump Apple. Meet irony : same nerds on both side of the aisle.

Thanks for your insightful and helpful comment

TC 185k for 4 yoe is amazing. Be thankful you are not at Nvidia.

Nvidia is a hw company and they’re not used to high TC. 185k isn’t high actually. It’s industry avg these days.

If it’s not for you, then move on. Have a legit reason to tell a story. I quit my last startup after 5 months and plan to interview soon. I would probably tell hiring managers that I’m tired of the startup scene and looking for something with more structure. I think this is a legit reason. What do you think?

Micron saneguy OP Oct 22, 2018

Yes. Do have a legit reason. I The kind of career path I want will not really be possible at Apple given that it's heavily silod and moving within the company is very hard. Besides basics like wlb, management etc at Apple is below my expectations

I don’t think it hurts to try. You can decide once you get it.

Micron saneguy OP Oct 22, 2018

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Are there even any risks? Only real one I can think of is if I get rejected coz of how little time I've been at Apple it might screw up my chances a year later. And it's also a small world, I know there are some ex employee 6 from my department at Google

Amazon xbceidnfOs Oct 22, 2018

Even if you get a rejection, your cool down is just about a year. A year from now you’d be perfectly poised to move. I don’t see any reason not to try!

Be very contrite to Apple if and when you leave. It’s a small valley and you don’t want to burn bridges.

Micron saneguy OP Oct 22, 2018

Just said this in my previous comment. Pissing people off in moving within the valley is bad idea

I would leave it off the resume honestly. I interviewed with them and turned down the offer. I get that FAANG gets talked about a great deal on Blind so I was surprised by the apple interview process and the manager I would report to wasn't that great.

What's the role? Are you in sales?
