1 year ago I was still a senior student who knew little about what industry looks like. Thanks to crazy stock market & the acquisition, my TC rockets from ~190k to 310k at the moment. I am truly thankful for what has happened, and I've been working hard to try to learn more. However, I'm growingly feeling worried about whether I can get higher TC when my 4 year cliff comes. How hard is it for a SWE with 3 yoe to get even higher TC? I guess it doesn't matter whether I have senior title at that time, since Tableau's title is not as widely recognized compared to big names.
Son, we know this is just a humblebrag. The only way it can get any humbler is if you had said you were humbled to get this opportunity.
No it's not, I'm sorry if the post makes you uncomfortable, but it's natural feeling when you earn a lot but you don't think you are worth it.
No need to worry about your cliff for now. Even if your pay drops or you can't get the same TC for your next job, it's fine because you just got very lucky for your first job and there's no need to expect your luck to continue.
If you are good you won't hit a cliff.
Can you elaborate more on this if someones at FB for example? I guess only DE can make that happen and even if one gets just standard refreshers then still a lateral hire will earn more. True?
In general (eg non amzn) high performance leads to high pay.
There’s a decent chance you can get something similar after your cliff. That being said it will be hard and if you do manage to get higher with 3-4 yoe it will not be much higher.
Looks like being "content" is a thing of past.
Off by a millennium
Buddy, wait until your stocks vest to "humblebrag". If you've seen how your TC skyrocketed, it can also plummet. Also, you did nothing to deserve the 310k bump. Count your blessings and come back to reality.
310 is total, not bump
Yeah my bad, I meant the bump to 310k.
Hey Fellow Tabloid. Just enjoy the sweet raise and think that not even your buddies at FANG are gonna make as much as you in the next 3 years. Also word of advice, use your money wisely, you are just getting started.
LOL this guy really is a kid.. with Salesforce buying tableau, they won’t keep both the sf analytics cloud and tableau platform - a lot of it is duplicate.. gonna be a ton of attrition and most likely only the good engineers and sales people will be kept around.. So some guy with 1yoe isn’t looking to bright to collect that TC over next few years - try worrying about that first bud
You got very lucky. Just accept it and stop worrying.
