Hi Blinders.
I have been grinding leetcode every single day since April. Hit 400 solved this weekend. I can send my profile + resume on request. I have some solid industry experience with 2yoe. Went to a good school. Feel free to DM me.

Looking for referrals from:

I’m grinding leetcode as well. Any tips to finish more in lesser time or a better way to go about the whole process?
Did u just do leetcode other than work , eat and sleep ?

Yes all I have done is eat sleep work LC the past 5 months. Literally. No TV shows. No video games. No movies. No partying or going out. No smoking weed. Nothing. Just LC.

      Some tips:
-Don't treat LC as some nasty medicine. Treat it as something that will help you improve and grow. A lot of it comes down to mindset
-Look at solutions after 25 mins if you still cannot solve. I have spent hours and hours thinking about single problems in the past without peeking and its never once been a productive use of time. If i cant get it in 20 or 30 mins, thinking about it for 4 hours has never yielded a solution not once.
-if you have to look at the solution, write down the problem number in a notepad and make an effort to revisit after a week. I wish I had done this more because there are problems that I solved 16 weeks ago that I don't remember too well. I could be at 500+ now but this last month I have mostly focused on revisiting old problems and doing hards. Revisiting old problems is important
-dont bother with hards that are not common and tagged. It takes many many many months or years to be able to nail new hards unless you are gifted. If you get crazy hards that no one has seen in an interview I would chalk it up to bad luck and brush it off. Most of the people solving hards in interviews either have years of practice or have seen them before. Most hards in interviews are the common ones.

Hope this helps. Just keep grinding don't stop. Tbh if I can't get into my top choices this time, I'm gonna grind another year.

Maybe if I get to where I want I'll make a full post with tips and reflections and flesh this out more :)

I admire your dedication. You should get an offer at any place you want just for that :).

Eh I wish.. Interviews are still mostly luck. There are still many hards a cannot solve and many mediums that still give me trouble. I could get totally screwed even with all of my prep.

I am using the same strategy as op. Now 200+, not sure if I should start interviewing or finish around 350-400 problems first.
How many hard did you do op
How many hrs or problems a day

I have done about 60 hards. I spend 12 hrs a day on weekends and 4 hrs per night during the week. Anytime I'm not at work I'm doing interview prep pretty much

Going from 200-300 was a major boost for me. Felt the extra one hundred problems really helped. 300-400 I slowed down - I solved like 30 hards and lots of DP. I still suck at DP though. :( definitely worth going from 200-300

How did you keep up with the ever increasing new questions on Leetcode?
      Sep 4, 2018
    • OP
I do the contest every week. That helps stay on top of it and you are at least seeing and trying the new questions.

Does solving leetcode actually mean anything to interviewers? I just looked through the problems and it doesn’t look like a good use of time to solve these.

OP here. I ended up with offers from Airbnb and Uber. Both from referrals on this thread. Offer numbers and comparison is here:

I went with Airbnb for numerous reasons. I may make a big post on tech lounge regarding my experience and reflections on everything. All of my prep was worth it and I'm glad I did it. 2yoe 300k tc now.

A big lesson I learned is the interview process is 50% luck / 50% prep unless you're a genius.

Where do you actually want to go out of these? It’s not that productive to interview at every company, it’s better to pick a few top choice ones and a few to practice with. And a couple that give really high offers for negotiation.
    Sep 2, 2018 6
    • OP
I didn't put any companies up there that I wouldn't actually want to work for. Idk why you think it isn't productive to do as many interviews as possible. I have already done many interviews and still I learn something new from every single one. In fact I can't recall a single interview that I walked out of without having at least learned something or identified an area of improvement for myself. Each interview is at worst a very realistic free mock interview and at best an offer you can negotiate with or potentially take. I also have made many connections with recruiters and engineers through interviewing which have been very valuable. Besides what else would I be doing? Just more leetcode anyways.

What is someone’s incentive to refer you when you most likely won’t accept the offer and they don’t already know you personally?
      Sep 2, 2018
    • OP
How do you know I most likely won't accept an offer? If I can get an offer from any of those companies I would consider it seriously. And as I said earlier I am interested in working for any of those companies.
      Sep 2, 2018
    • Spotify Isn
Assuming you get an offer from 50% of the companies you interview with, there’s only a 10% chance you’d accept any one offer.
      Sep 2, 2018
    • OP
That's also assuming I get referrals to all of those places as well. I maybe get one or 2 referrals out of this thread if I am lucky. So far havent had anyone dm me so my hopes are not high. Best case scenario I got 1 or 2 interviews out of this. So if you were one of those who referred me I would argue chances would actually be pretty good assuming I pass which is again 50/50 at best.

My guess is part of the reason you’re not getting DMs is because you listed so many companies.

Thanks for the advice in your prev comments. How did u prepare for system design? Any particular sources which are good. Did u do a bit of reading everyday or sat and did it in like 2-3 weeks ?
    Sep 4, 2018 1
    • OP
Read system design resources while eating. Every breakfast and lunch just put your phone next to you and read something. Also read on the bus or shuttle, before bed, while brushing teeth.. Feel like you want to watch some random YouTube video or play a game of league/fortnite? Read a system design blog instead. Wish I could read while driving. Need a system design audio book :p
I used grokking, checkcheckzz GitHub, and system design primer. Followed lots of links from those resources and read lots of engineering blogs as well. Highscalability.com is good too.

Did you hear back from FB eventually?

If you don't mind, what is your reflection on your preparation and the outcome? Was it effective? Is there anything that you would have done differently?
