I didn't put anything on 401k in 2018. Can I put 9k in December if company matches? What's the policy in big companies like Facebook and Google. TC too low :(
If your company has a "true up" match, you'll get full match assuming your paycheck is large enough to be able to contribute $8,500 in December. You can call up the 401k custodian or look at the summary plan description to find out whether there is true up match. Your benefits coordinator or HR may also be able to tell you.
What's true up match?
Just Google "true up match 401k" or something to that effect. It should be among the top results.
It depends on how much you make, you can put as much as 75% of your pack check away.
Google, you contribute 18500, they match 50% of it
Doesn't Google match 50% until 9k? Is it different per level?
If your company does a direct paycheck match applying their limits & annual allowed contribution...then you still have approximately 3 paychecks remaining for 2018. Just change the contribution to 75% of your paycheck & suck it up.

401k contributions can only come from paycheck deductions. For your pay in December would you have $9k that you could contribute? Also, keep in mind that A) it takes time to adjust your contribution percentage and B) most plans will have a max that you can contribute (ex: max of 75% of your regular paychecks can go into a 401k per check). You can always add $5,500 into an IRA for 2018 up until tax day in April 2019. Just not going to get company match, obviously since they can’t contribute to an IRA.
