48 and what next
Hey all I am a PM 48 years and am now trying to get into Facebook , Uber or one of those high profile companies. Never worked out a high profile company before. Do you think I am just dreaming to get into such companies when I am 48 and without any high profile companies on the resume? Mostly been an IC PM all through...
I worked at McAfee. I think I know who you are. Getting a job at FANG is not hard if you interview well. The hard part is getting noticed in the giant stack of applications.
Let's not pretend ageism doesn't exist in the tech industry. Young people with little work experience may make assumptions about you. That said, it is possible. Uber is having a hard time finding quality candidates. Might be easier than other profile companies.
Ageism does exist. If you’re old, or feel like you are, leave out dates from your resume, drop your oldest employers from your resume. Don’t talk about your grandkids graduation during interviews. And don’t wear your medals from the First World War. People who look younger than their years escape ageism to some degree: Lean, wrinkle-free, and clean cut. But there isn’t much you can do about that, yeah?
Why do you still want to work for someone? Spend the last decade of your career working for yourself!
