6 YoE. Is 500k TC @ Citadel likely? Hours be damned, I have a mortgage and private school tuition I need to pay.

Assuming NYC office. No offer yet, but for this price, I will go above and beyond my limit.

@citadel what's a typical performance bonus? How do they judge performance?
      Sep 12
    • Citadel Securities / Eng bluetiger
There’s no typical bonus - there’s a huge range depending on team, performance, etc. For a strong performer, bonus will be more than the base salary, something significantly more.

If you’re in a front office team, performance based on the money you made the firm. For infrastructure it’s more subjective - manager review, work impact, etc.

I don't believe citadel can match FANG salaries. Why do you say it has to be able to?

Salary threads have people saying $400k+ for citadel new grads

Citadel easily surpasses FANG salaries (even as SWE, but especially as trader/QR), from my experience getting an offer from them and various friends I know who have.

Lol. As if trader salaries has anything to do with this thread.... But OK then. I guess I was wrong.

I was more talking about quant researcher, which is pretty relevant and often quite similar to SWE roles. But regardless, SWE does still easily surpass it.

It would be team performance dependent if you're "front office", so a gamble. However citadel base salary tends to be high and there is usually a long noncompete which can work in your favor, since you could just quietly go work at Google if you get fired and collect the citadel base too.

I know someone who quit in just a few months but got to collect all the noncompete money anyways lol...

Can you explain how the noncompete works in this case?
      Sep 14
    • Goldman Sachs fake engineer
You can't work for another financial company for some specified period, and in return they pay your base salary during that time.

Ah gotcha. Ok, I thought there was more to it. Cheers.

Citadel is mostly in Chicago but you don’t need half a million to have a decent lifestyle in chi city so sf or nyc most likely

$500k in Chicago vs NYC are two completely different offers. Which location?

Word on the street is that they pay well but technical debt is pretty high so be ready for weekends and long days. I know people with similar offers with 3-4 YOE not even senior positions 200 base + Sign in bonus and other guaranteed bonus = 400k

I'm planning on trying myself. My friend on the offer told me it was easier than FAANG. By the way he was rejected by FAANG

It depends on the business, in equity's processing speed tend to matters a bit more. But in FICC or IB, speed tend to be less important. Being able to trade an exotic deal and know your risk earlier is more important, that means it's ok to have technical debt as long as you can get there first

I'm sure working with a bunch of FANG rejects is going to be very rewarding

Most likely. Depends on your role, but my new grad offer was 400k at a company in the quant space (for QR though), and I know Citadel would've been around there if I'd stuck it out.
