I have a job offer for a level 5b (Senior Software Engineer 2) at Uber that I would like some help evaluating. I am excited about the opportunity but I would like to improve the numbers. First, would you know how the E5b compares to the level E6 at Facebook ? (Or Staff L6 at Google). levels.fyi makes me believe that it is similar. (Which would mean that Uber level 6 is equivalent to E7 at Facebook and thus super rare ?). The offer itself is: - Cash: 214K base + 30K meets-all bonus - Initial grant of 780K vesting over 4 years - Refresher grant of 140K every year but each refresher vests over 3 years I need help figuring out if the initial grant is low or not. I heard some figures like people getting 1 Million. Thank you !
780k at what valuation?
Generally Sr 2 is equivalent to FB e6, are you getting the number of RSU units or just dollars? If latter, keep in mind there is a liquidation event happening now for $40 per share, so your number of units may be based on that number, but not sure how today’s offer works.

I got the offer 3 weeks ago. They said they don't do number of units anymore. My offer was at 33. I accepted and plan to start soon. But then I saw the news about tender offer last week. Now no one is sure if I'll get 33 or a new number based off of the tender offer.
5b maps to e5.75, if you ask me. It’s a good offer though.
What would uber 6 map to at Facebook or google ? How many level 6 engineers does Uber even have ?
Uber 6 at Uber is certainly harder than e6 or t6. Again I’d say it’s 6.75 at f/g. It’s common that in a 100 people org, it may only have 2-4 level 6s.
This is a high end offer for 5b. As much as I want you to join Uber, this will translate to 19k RSUs by the time you join. Or: join in 2 weeks, but first make damn sure you’re getting 23k RSUs and get it in writing. A lot of folks who joined in the last month or two were promised 33/share equivalents and now there’s doubt about whether they’ll get it. Talk to your recruiter. Tell him/her you heard from recent hires who are in limbo.
My recruiter told me that I will get the 409a price on the date I join . Isn’t that true ?
No it’s not necessarily true. I joined recently and no one has confirmed that. You still have leverage. Demand to talk to a Director level recruiting person. And get it in writing. Right now a $ offer and a promise of “current 409a price” is totally worthless as it’s ambiguous.
How can they write you the refresher amount in the offer letter?
It’s the target refresher, just like target bonus. And its fixed per level.

I was offered a different level for Uber and there was no mention of "refresher grant". There was mention of a performance bonus of which a small percentage is cash and a large percentage is RSUs with same or similar vesting schedule. Is that what you mean by meets-all bonus and refresher grant?
In my case, the recruiter gave me exact numbers for target bonus and for target refresher. I haven’t gotten the written offer yet, but verbally the distinction was clear.
I got exact numbers too, but indirectly, e.g. target bonus of X, Y% is in cash and Z% is in equity vesting monthly over 3 years

Comp is worse then my E6 comp. 140k is way lower than your E6 refresh. It won’t even refresh your initial grant. And it’s private equity you can’t sell. Financially speaking it’s bad.
Congrats! $780k translates to roughly 19k rsus( this can be increased by at least another couple of thousand). Base seems on the higher side, which is good. how many years of experience?
