90% of you who complain about Microsoft’s compensation aren’t as smart as you think
It’s really quite simple. If you’re being lowballed, and you’re “smarter than everyone else” in your org, leave. Interview at Facebook, interview at Google, and of course they would LOVE to have you, considering you’re god’s gift to programming.
If you don’t do that, stfu. You’re not being paid minimum wage. You make enough to live comfortably in Seattle with a very decent WLB.
Satya Nadella has made the calculation that you don’t need 100 legendary engineers to ship a product. You need 10 legendary engineers and 90 OK engineers. If you’re in the 10, you’re being paid competitively. If you’re in the rest, he knows you don’t have a choice. If you are too stupid to see that, then you deserve whatever compensation Microsoft throws your way.
