9am-9pm 6 days, this is sad

Feels sad to read this. Lucky that I'm not a part of such company.

A "996" work schedule refers to an unofficial work schedule (9 a.m. ~ 9 p.m., 6 days per week) that has been gaining in popularity. Serving a company that encourages the "996" work schedule usually means working for at least 60 hours per week.

Remember by the time they get home it’s 11 and shower and everything is 12. Then theyi get up around 6/7 to avoid rush hours. Many chinese companies have checkin tardiness policy.. There is little personal time for the whole week. On busy week you might do 9-00-7.

SWEs in China get paid very well too. Heard that it's the second highest paying country for SWEs, after US. And COL is lower there

I don't think you know the reality there. In big cities the housing price is the same as here in Bay Area and the pay is not as much as we earn here.

Hence *second* highest, not the highest. If you compare Chinese large cities with, say, London, Toronto, Sydney, Tokyo, SWEs in Chinese cities are paid better

Sorry but Alibaba P6(mid level) salary is equal to SDE 1 (entry level) salary without the RSUs. When comparing TC, Ali is lower.

What is narrow minded about observing that working 12 hour days for 6/7 days a week? IMO this means that you forgo time spent on hobbies and relationships.

What are your daily hobbies and how often do you meet up with friends? Prove me wrong that you maintain enough time to do that.

@expedia, you clearly have no idea what p6 is. It's equavent to SDE2 and the pay is very good considering the low COL in HZ. Most of them own a house and a car

Sorry @Alibaba but I'm talking about real figures here. P6 salary@ 35k RMB a month is a shit salary. Given that Expedia (and other American companies) offers higher salary.
FYI i was offered this and rejected it.

You’re right, there is no way to earn a livable salary working 40 hours per week. None of the 🌲fiddy’s on here work 40 hours or only 5/7 days per week, right?

Let your company’s propaganda keep you slaving away. There are no other places that give you money for time. Certainly none that let you work less than 9-9-6

You are the one who had been narrow minded, you just don't know what exactly WLB is. You feel proud about 996 in your company, but others in that same Alibaba may have different opinions, as strong as it is in your internal forum recently.

Similar paying jobs have similar work schedules. 8 hour day is only enforced at what people call “state owned” businesses which are paying less than 1/3 of those 996 jobs and also full of whining coasters.

My understanding is that this is the point of the 955 license. Only companies that stick to decent schedules will be able to use it and as talent is hyperaware of better living conditions, it will force the shitty companies into compliance through starvation of labor.

Disagree. In most of those companies you don't get any stock. They give you few months of salary as bonus if you overtime. My friend has started working in a Chinese company and he's kinda regretting now.
