I'm a dev negotiating an offer with Amazon. I've forced them up a lot, about 33% more total TC. I mentioned at one point I want it known I'd wfh every wed, to efficiently contribute whilst being able to attend regular appts on the Eastside. Surprisingly, that was a sticking point. Any perspective on WFH culture at Amazon? YOE 2.5 Current TC: 205 Amazon offer TC/yr: 290 UPDATE: After explaining that I had 3 regular medical appts in Bellevue they agreed wfh was a good idea. So it worked out. Thanks for the perspectives!
If it’s for a medical appointment, they would need to make reasonable accommodations. What is considered “reasonable” is up for negotiation.
It is, I made that clear. And offered to make up the time in other ways
That looks like L6 comp, no? 2.5 yoe L6?
How come you manage to grow to 205k in Microsoft in 2.5yr? Is it your third jump?
It varies team by team, org by org, manager by manager. Amazon is surprisingly inconsistent when it comes to WFH.
They are very demanding, it's their way or the highway. Would not for health reasons do for long time.
Everything depends on your manager. Amazon isn't what it used to be. Too many TPMs, QA managers converted to SDMs. Below the bar hiring for SDMs, who throw Amazon culture right out of the window on Day1. Your manager owns you, so even if they might agree now, you might find it difficult later and this high TC(if it's real) is sure to make your manager and their favourites jealous as most might have it less than what you have. Not trying to scare you, just stating the obvious,
Fair enough. I would accept with the perspective that I'm a temporary slave.
They will tell you wfh is possible but when you attempt to do so you will be blocked by your manager and red tape
I think it's fine to work from home everyday between 5:00pm and 10:00pm if you cannot stay late in the office for some reason.

Getting pipped!!!!!
That's not universally an issue at Amazon. My teams have always been comfortable with work from home. Why was it a sticking point?
They said me working from home weekly would negatively impact team morale
