    > people of minoritized gender identities
Fuck off. Nobody is “minoritizing” them. They are a tiny minority. The newspeak needs to stop.

  • We pulled all our age and gender classifying demos from the public already.

No, as it happened for the first time, they'll just make it scan a few D&I courses.

How are they being misclassified? Sounds like the tech is working exactly as intended, by determining subjects’ biological gender features. And it’s not like you even need AI to do this; most of the time it’s also pretty obvious by looking at someone (though I guess it’s now considered insensitive to point it out) 🤦‍♂️

Read the article - it also thought old black women were white men and men with long hair were women.

I‘d guess that it’s think all preteen boys are girls or visa/versa if it was based on biological gender markers. But it’s not, it’s probably based on some incel Chad memes.

Yes, AI systems aren’t 100% accurate. I’d say 98% is pretty good though, and true failure cases can be used for training purposes to further increase accuracy. Unfortunately though, a square jaw and an Adam’s Apple remain what they are when a photo is taken. Not much you can do about that unless we start putting special RFID chips on people with inverted genders.

So all overweight people will be mislabeled too?

Maybe the tech shouldn’t be used by the government or institutions.

Whether it should be used or not depends on the use case and how precise they need results to be in order to be effective.

Okay I understand where it can get messy
.but just like #loveislove , trans and non binary don't usually look different facially Right? If you could tell a gay person or a trans by their face/dressing that would be stereotypical right? How can an algorithm get something right..which is not supposed to be predicted. Can I tell by looking at a male whether he is cis, or identifies as a woman (unless he is already out and changing the way he/she dresses etc) but either way face remains same??

You can definitely tell who is cis just by looking at them

Nah that’s just innate biological processing humans can do

If I decide to identify as a woman soon, I won't start looking different till I start hormones etc . What are you talking about. Trans people are not born different physically

Why’s this a mystery? If gender is a figment if your imagination then how will a photo represent that

What if there is something AI can pick about it????

I suspect that if the AI can accurately pick out trans and non-binary people we'll see even more butthurt. It's just a no-win situation.
