Do you agree? I don’t. The poll lists the world’s most valuable brands in order from most to least. What’s your pick for 2019? Tagged the lowest ranking companies in case they needed help 😂

Pointless survey, look at their market cap as the bulk of these are public companies. That is the only survey that matters...

Brand value or brand equity is nothing but a plug 🔌 to balance the books. Assets = Liabilities + Equity. Hence, brand equity is a vanity metric that is useless.

Amazon's income is at least somewhat diversified. Google's all ads, an industry with slowing growth. Amazon being ahead makes sense to me.

When it comes to brand perception I'd say they're on similar footing -- Amazon is known for great customer service and employee abuse, while Google is known for good free software which hoards personal data.

    Apple is definitely #1.

Thanks to their brand they can sell $20 stands for $999.

Although Tim Apple is quickly killing the brand.

I don’t think many people are loyal to google. They just prefer it because it’s objectively better for most queries.

Federal regulators can’t kill amazon. The company is built to be split up. All of the different orgs, even within the larger orgs like AWS operate completely independently of each other. If it got split up each new company would grow to dominate each sector they’re in.
      Jun 15
    • Credit Karma KennethLi
@apple that maybe true but they can't dominate. For example, Amazon retail cannot keep subsidizing their cost if they no longer own AWS. Splitting the company will take away the power of Amazon of big bets they invest as AWS no longer can keep providing money after break up. Hope you get the point.
      Jun 16
    • Apple QdOM20
Oh I get the point but I don’t think you understand how well amazon is structured. Retail is not subsidized by AWS, it can easily be (and is already) a customer of AWS. Just because the company would be split doesn’t mean they can’t each take on big bets. Big bets already come out of a specific cost center, not just randomly allocating money from spare funds the company has.
      Jun 16
    • Credit Karma KennethLi
True right now, but they were able to compete like this because of AWS in previous years. Their retail took heavy loss to drive competitors out of business before they monopolize online market. And in those previous years AWS was providing them big bucks. Now if they want to disrupt FedEx and UPS, they need retail as their biggest customer. I am not saying they will not succeed, but the power it has right now like they announce they are entering logistics and FedEx shares fall, such power will be gone. Each broken part of Amazon will have equally strong competition in market, which is good thing for business environment but Amazon will definitely loose excessive power it enjoys right now.

82% of Google revenue is from ads. Amazon is 50% e-comm, 8% B&M, 12% AWS, 8% SaaS, 18% 3rd party seller service. So yeah, Amazon.
    Jun 14 0
  • Walmart.com myPeers
Look at it this way. A single announcement from Amazon can disrupt pharma, grocery, online shopping, retail shopping, shipping, cloud (don’t know if I am missing any) industries. Google does not have that hold for now.

Their profit may be more than Amazon. Their tech is superior to Amazon but that is different. Amazon has better reach.

      What is Google's dividend yield?

Amazon's businesses are highly profitable. We roll huge amounts of money into bets on new innovations but if activist investors somehow had enough shares to demand something different from Bezos the core businesses are cash machines. We could invest less on new shit and just crank out large dividends instead.

It would be a change but we wouldn't be fucked. We would start paying large dividends.
      Jun 15

Drink the koolaid much? Once you been there, done that and chase after the next billion dollar idea over and over again you turn into Microsoft who has turned into IBM who has become GE and history repeats. How's that Whole Foods Amazon revolution going?

      https://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-amazon-whole-foods-two-years-20190616-story.html
      Jun 17
    • Google IIFTM
Google isn’t giving dividends. Neither is any of FAANG except a tiny yield from apple. But the cash keeps mounting and they don’t have ways to spend it, so guess what the investors are going to say? “It’s time to collect.”

At that point, Google and fb will be able to pay up. Amazon won’t, they don’t have much cash, and the investor sentiment for all big tech will have flipped.

      Netflix will get screwed too.

It’s important to be profitable guys, these are businesses at the end of the day.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens then with the new kids on the block... the 2019-2020 SF IPOs.... my guess is they’ll be allowed to reinvest all gains back in and not give dividends because they’ll have the growth story and most importantly there will be a “circle of life” narrative.

In my opinion Apple is being undervalued.

I agree with Amazon > Google, but I think the Apple brand is still extremely valuable and if they connect it to a successful product they will hit a home run.

By contrast Google has launched several technically good products but been unsuccessful in getting market traction, the opposite of Apple.

    Amazon's somewhere in the middle.

Facebook's brand has taken a beating, as has Uber's.

Microsoft still has a credible brand and I think people still generally associate the company with practical, high quality products. For instance, people will assume the next Xbox is a good quality gaming console before even hearing a review.
    Jun 14 1
    • Microsoft / Eng cbCv23
Agreed on Apple. But the brand had slipped, and will continue to do so unless they deliver again. It’s starting to feel a bit like the 90’s again with them.

They are fashion tech, and should embrace that identity. The MacPro is going the wrong way.

But you’re right. The Apple brand is still a cocked gun. They just need another bullet.
