Hello peeps! i have been researching about Austin and how people have decided to relocate there in search of better COL. I am 11 years experinced and currently make around 280K in SVC. If people working in Austin can chip in their YOE/TC/company in this thread, it will help a lot for people like us who are contemplating a move to Austin!

Do you know how much a senior engineer in your company can expect to get with 11 yoe?
Not sure. May be 140k

Thats a really nice TC for 5 yoe. Whats your base?
Have you ever been to Austin? It's way different than the bay area. Plus CoL wise it's not that different except gas and rent
And gas is neglible unless you drive a lot or commute w a Suburban.
This is so true, especially if you're renting near downtown. I recently moved to downtown Seattle and downgraded from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom, but pay less and make double the TC I made in Austin. We were able to get rid of our vehicles as well. Even if we stuck with a 2 bedroom, we'd still be earning way more in Seattle. I do love Austin, though! Just sucks that there are very few opportunities at FANG.
About 10 yoe and about 260k

I haven’t done shit today!
Largely hype. No where near the career opportunity and growth of bay area. If you are looking to slow it down then okay. But expect TC to be nearly half of what you get in the Bay Area. If you can xfer your TC into Austin then good; else forgetaboutit
I am at a stage now where i think i can slow down. I am thinking about COL more than opportunities to rise up becuase it’s getting way too difficult to manage a family in the bay area. Austin looks like a decent place though
@apple Okay just make sure you know what you are getting into. If you leave or move from Apple just know the selection will not be as rich as the bay area
