Can someone please let me know the range for the L7 level at AWS? Recruiter asked me about my expectations and I’m not sure on where to start my negotiation. Any help from the Amazonian friends would be highly valued.
Depends on the role. Sde is 390-590. Sdm is a bit higher. Pm is a lower.
Dayum. Nice salary. What is L5?
180-240
Can't you just say - "I am sure you are well aware of the current talent market.. I expect to be compensated at the higher end of the range.. I am looking forward to the offer.. thanks"
No, because I'll just ask for a number. If you're asking for 250k, but applied for an SDE, I role then I would be wasting your time. It's not like you know the level of the role you're applying for. Imagine going through the entire process and I then say "well 160k is at the higher part of the range" 1) You would be upset 2) I wasted both of our times 3) the hiring manager is pissed at me because you didnt accept I'm not going to low ball you so just tell me a number that would make you happy. I'll do what I can. Even if your ask if low I'll probably give you more in order to avoid frustration down the road and you'll trust me when you become a manager. It's long term thinking.
I appreciate your viewpoint as a recruiter (?) But, just everything you say will make sense the other way too.. just read that back as the candidate and replace "asking for 250" with "offering 160" and "160 is higher part" with "250 is lower part" Low balling and under levelling happen all the time, it is a fact.. The way I think is - the candidate is putting up more emotional capital into the process and deserves to hear the first offer at the start of the negotiation..
OP did you already pass the onsite?
How many years is L7?
It’s principal. Most people never reach L7.
Yes. It’s in the Product Management team. I’m not sure on where to start the negotiation. SDE I get it may be higher. How would they reach 350+ on salary if the base is capped at 160k. If the RSU is only 5% for the first year then they would have to include over $160K in sign on. Is that realistic. I’m trying to get prospective from anyone who is at Amazon who have been through it.
Sign on bonus will indeed be enough to let you hit your TC, whatever that might be.
Hi OP, My friend joined as an L6 PM and got 1 year salary as sign on bonus to be paid in pay checks over the first 2 years. His base was between 140-160K
