I have an AWS PM-T (L6) offer at $395 TC. AWS wouldn’t uplevel it to principle, which is disappointing. What do I have to do to get them to uplevel? I also have an Google PM interview coming up. Should I decline AWS and bet on Google? What’s the pay range for Google PM with 12 YOE? Should I ditch Google and AWS for a manager role at HPE?
I'm an advocate for holding on to what you have... But then I'm all about impact and stability so it depends on what matters to you
Getting a Sr PM-T position at Amazon is quite easy for an average candidate but getting into Google PM is significantly difficult unless you have a very strong referral and you do well in the interview loop. So stick with Amazon.
[You have to be able to spell "principal" to get the level, ;p] Dude, I have over 30 YOE and was downleveled from L7 to L6. I think it is standard bait and switch on the job ad. There is also the issue where you are being interviewed by L6s and if they don't think you are "better" than them and should take that level instead of them, they are going to vote no. As for the offer, it is quite high (your location??). They can move a lot on offer but recruiter cannot do anything on level. It is final unless you re-apply for a different track.
Did you take it in the end?
Yes, but Google offer is pending. Was told I will get verbal in a couple days but it is conditional on team match of course. My AWS TPM offer was still well below yours (even though they came up 75K from initial low ball) and had to get VP approval as out of band. This was based on knowing a Google offer was pending but not with actual numbers.
Location is SF bay.
Yes Amazon hires fresh MBAs at L6, but L6 is a big band. My offer as a fresh MBAs grad is around 2x less than your offer.

Guys who don’t work out: why?
Never knew Sr. PM-T at Amazon could be offered this much money. Based on my experience, there are slim (or none) chances to be up-leveled.
Honestly the job scope feels like a step down for me although the comp is more. (I’m principle/director now.) That’s why I’m disappointed they can’t uplevel. My MBA classmate joined Amazon as Sr PM 7yrs ago. I should be able to do better than Sr PM 7yrs later, right?
What’s your yoe?
