About to reject Uber but fear of regretting it once they IPO

I don’t want to feel like I left lots of $$$ on the table if their stock pop. Is it a legitimate fear?

Compared to Snap, Uber actually provides service that people want.

How much money? Why are you rejecting?

Uber gdxxdv Sep 2, 2018

Depends on what you are rejecting it for

Counter offer from my current company

One general advice base your decisions on information you currently have. Don't make it based on speculation. It usually works out well in the long run.

FOMO

Yes. Fear Of Missing Out = FOMO.

SAP tortoisehh Sep 2, 2018

Definitely go for Uber. You will not regret.

Uber sight Sep 2, 2018

Why are you thinking of rejecting Uber? Your decision should be based on what you love doing and whether a company can offer that to you for a reasonable amount.

Microsoft Pposm OP Sep 2, 2018

Cuz I’m not unhappy at my work. If I were to join it would just be for more comp (mostly stock) so now there’s an unknown factor about the future of company and the people I’ll work with that worries me

Uber sight Sep 2, 2018

Could you return to your current job if you try it and don’t like it? Would your team take you back? The future of no company, including Microsoft, is certain. Enron was thought to be a safe bet. So was Lehman Brothers - a premier tier1 bank that was in business for > 100 years. Ask yourself: Where can I make the biggest difference? Where will I grow the most? Answering those two questions will almost certainly result in happiness and solid comp over time.
