How do you address "why did you leave your previous job" in an interview in case of layoff? Spare the trolls please. Already sad enough that they didn't consider performance when doing it.
I can't believe they are laying off engineers. I am still receiving recruiter emails from eBay.
“My personal goals didn’t align with those of my previous employer”
This !
Brings up many more questions - previous answer is better
No shame in this. I’ve appreciated when candidates were honest and brief about it. Those that seem to go on and on about it are the ones that I’ve always questioned.
Be open and candid. I am looking for a job and I tell in my very first reply to recruiter that I am on H1B and I need sponsorship. If your client is willing to sponsor my visa then we can talk otherwise ‘Happy Finding Candidates’. Surprisingly, recruiters appreciate it. Couple of them set up a meeting to know my background for future opportunities because their clients were not willing to sponsor H1B. PS: If you are on H1B then you will know the pain of switching the job in current political environment.
Yes. The pressure of finding something soon is looming over my head. And the tag of getting laid off is not helping.
Thanks for the reply folks. It's just that people tend to have a notion that a person laid off is incompetent.
Don’t mention it yourself if nobody is asking you. If asked why are you looking for change then first mention the positive thing about the position which attracts you and then mention briefly that your were affected by downsizing and your company is not doing well. Don’t muddle the answer too much . Keep the focus on positives

I was once fired because I refused to schedule the team to work 7 days a week from the beginning of the project. Problem is people dont want to believe such companies exist, even though it didnt exist long, go figure. I left the job off my resume.
For Xyz reason, Xyz engineers were laid off from this department. I was one of them. Looking back, it was a great experience working there and hope things had turned out differently.
Wow so many likes I’m god of laid offs
