I'm currently working as technical lead for a European company. I was hired two years ago to move to New York, alone, to setup their New York branch, meet clients, hire people, and make the office successful. It worked out great, but I'm extremely bored at work (lack of challenges) because we lack senior developers for me to discuss with, the pay is 130.000, and the company is moving in a direction that I don't believe in. I have 13 years professional experience, no education, and I'm highly loved by all of our clients. I have been offered to work for most clients but I want to get out of the advertising industry. I really want to start working for a big company in Silicon Valley or New York where the compensation is +300.000. But I have no idea what role to apply for. - My vanilla JavaScript skills are good, but I lack experience in working with large scale applications. I also lack depth since my backend isn't very strong. - My management skills are great according to my company and the numbers that I have produced. - I have released a semi-successful mobile game on my spare time. - I have been an athlete in national team level (I guess this shows discipline and hard work) - My strongest skill is to analyze and find weakness and then build a strategy to strengthen that (I trade stocks and cryptos on my spare time, analyze companies, reports, charts, currencies, global events etc.). Is there any chance of getting in as a leader / director of a team of engineers? What role would that be? Any tips? Thanks!

Just a question: why not network, make connections, and see if you can get a role in network to do something similar to what you’ve done, eg set up shop, lead? Why not set up your own business and do outsourcing in tech, for example? You have so many leaderships skills you are primed to run a business. I know more than a few managers from MS who quit and ended up making their first million within 1-2 years doing their own business: recruiting, hardware, outsourcing, advertising. I feel like joining FB/google/whatever might bring you the money you want, but it will be pigeon-holing you into some pre-made position. I think your skills are worth a lot more if you apply them directly. Wish you all the best!
I would actually really like doing that, but my visa situation makes it hard since I am in US on E-2 and I really don't want to move back to Europe. I am currently 32 and my plan is to setup my own business at age 35-37. Being at a major company is a stepping stone for me to get to know really competent people, strengthen my experience and get enough money so I can invest in getting my own visa when starting said company. Thanks for your tips, it is really helpful to hear this from someone!
