My current job is more about UI & Visual design. Now I want to make a transition to Product Designer, and started applying for new jobs. However, many companies turned me down and saying it’s not a fit. It’s super frustrating. Can anyone help me point out where went wrong? Can I get any tips? Please DM me. I will appreciate that a lot!!!
Without seeing any of your work, I’ll guess that you’re probably pushing too much of the UI and visual design final deliverables, and not enough process and end-to-end design. This is common for graphic designers and UI designers who try to transition into product and UX roles.
I smirk when I see “graphic designer“ lol. Not to be an a*hole but too many designer focus too much on the pixels and not the thinking. It’s sad whenever I see curriculum in art school charge an arm and a life just to teach kids how to make something look pretty.
DM me a link to your folio.
Build a portafolio. Make unsolicited redesigns or from scratch fictional products. Freelance for cheap for a bit you can gain clients by being proactive. Do this for a few months and now you'll have a stronger case to land an entry level as full time gig
Thank you! I have a portfolio with fictional projects. And I’m a designer with 2-3 years of experience. Can you give me some feedback or teach me skills for portfolio presentation & white-boarding? Thank you again!
