Advice needed on investing Vanguard Index funds
I have $20,000 ready to invest and out of that, currently I bought VOO with about $8000 (20 shares). Which other index funds shod I go for? I’m planning to get some investment going to help me with buying a house 2-3 years later. Mid risk can be taken Thanks!
If you need the money in 2-3 years you shouldn't be inv3stimg in stocks at all. CDs or anshort term bond fund are all the risk you can afford to take.
Can you explain for an idiot new grad like me that only has investments in crypto? Why are these a better option. Just opened a vanguard account today but haven't bought any etfs
Stocks are extremely risky over time periods that short. If you have $100k and need to spend it in 3 years, a CD is just about the only thing that will guarantee you will have $100k to spend when you need it. With stocks there's a non-trivial chance you'll only have $50k (it's happened twice since 2000). On average you'll probably have $120k or so, but there are no guarantees. And don't kid yourself by saying you have investments in crypto. You don't. You are gambling on crypto. Nothing wrong with taking high risk bets with a small portion of your portfolio but be honest with yourself about what you're doing

You should put at least 25% in crypto. Also, don't get VOO, get QQQ
Crypto and QQQ are both very risky. Probably 10% at most, especially if OP needs the money in 2-3 years.
Assuming you don't have transaction fees, you should not invest 100% at once. Invest it gradually over several months.
