So I'm currently working as a data analyst at Capital One. Amazon offered me a cloud support associate role. Base pay is a little low, but TC is higher. Ideally I want to work as a data scientist and I'm confused about what to do. Amazon's role is far from what I want to do. I couldn't call work "work" without coding(I heard CSA is basically a glorified call center role, please correct me if I'm wrong). But it's Amazon. How often do people jump roles at Amazon? Would it be more beneficial to take the Amazon offer or stay at Capital One? Im doubtful because I love to code and I don't wanna be stuck in a support role forever. Also, how quick do cloud support associates get promoted to cloud support engineers? Any help rendered would be highly appreciated because I don't want to screw up my career. I'm a recent grad with a Masters (~1 year with C1 now)
Yes cloud support is a glorified call center job. However, if you are in you can switch roles inside Amazon but thatโs difficult
What makes it difficult? Honestly, I just wanna get to a developer role. I can climb up the ladder after that because I'm actually good at development
Think ahead of it. How will you see yourself in future if you have Amazon on your cv or capital one only? Both data science and cloud has room to grow. You can switch to a coding job later. Compensation package should always get better when you switch jobs. Itโs a Tough choice and good luck.
Donโt do it. It will be hard to switch. Ask to interview for SDE.
Agreed you should push to get the role you want and stay ar C1 until you do
Could you share the interview experience and the questions?
My suggestion is to keep trying to get to the role you like even if it is at a small company, learn and then switch to a better named company. Since you are still new in your career, if you settle in a role you don't like it would be uphill battle to change later
My issue is that my visa prevents me from working for just about any company. Most are unwilling to sponsor. Because of this, I can't switch that easily or quickly.
