Hi I have been contemplating this move for a while. Personally I am interested in software development. I have good understanding of DS and Algorithms (still need to work on it). I am not thinking about moving to firmware. My concern is whether I will get interview call from tier1/tier2 companies since my resume is hardware focussed. Can people share their experience how they dealt with this situation. Any good projects I can do and put on resume? TC: 160K YOE: 5
If all else fails, go for firmware and transfer internallyr after a year.
Thank you. I agree with your opinion and have considered this before. The problem is it will take me multiple years to become software developer at top firm. firmware -> software (2nd tier) -> software(top tier). I am already doing a lot of coding in hardware based languages (OOP) and system C in my current role. I am surprised that I am able to tackle leetcode easy/medium problems with little s/w background so I was hoping to skip the firmware route. My concern is if I will be able to pass the resume screening to get telephonic call for tier2 companies and if anyone can share their experience if they went through the same.
Where do you work now ? Are you design engineer ? Try online courses and bootcamp.
Get into software team within your current company and get 1 year of experience and then move out
Move to a company that's going through a hardware to software transition at the moment and develop within the company. They will still require HW skills and experience, yet will invest significantly in developing their staff on SW.
Thank you.. I guess companies like Cisco/Intel are moving towards software based models. I will apply there. Are you aware of any other companies that are going through similar transition.
