Advise to get to 500K + TC in next 4-5 years
Will be joining Apple soon as IC4 TPM with TC~ 250K . I come from hardware EE engineering background and am learning ML and data science on the side to acquire a new skill. Just need advice if learning AI/ML would be beneficial with relevant domain knowledge to get to 500 K + TC in next 4-5 years or just need to focus on getting promoted as TPM? Also please advice if making a switch to product management is feasible from program management ? Thanks

Not sure it's possible to get to 500 as a TPM. Maybe at FB?
Need to become lead TPM or director of TPM at other means s size company . Else try for IC5 which I know is hard
You are approaching it all wrong my friend. The focus should be to do good work in ML field and then once you have proven yourself opportunities (and TC) will follow.
I know but have never worked in ML field. Iām learning now via mooc boot amp and online. Idea is to become a TPM for AI Ml based services in the next 2-3 years
Not true, focus on TC to optimize TC. Build up on leet code and take as much project ownership as you can

Donāt limit yourself. You could make 1MM TC by then.
Microsoft has a legendary PM - Corey Sanders who had been promoted every single year. He became a partner within 8-9 years since joining Microsoft after Princeton. Partner get over a million usually. He became CVP in another 3 years. PMs who demonstrates their ability well get promoted faster than engineers. Most of Microsoft leadership are former PMs. But you gotta work way harder than engineers. Engineers need to focus hard and get tired easily as a result. PM workload tends to demand long hours but less stressful work usually. In case of Corey, people wondered if he sleeps at all because you get a reply for your email within 10āmins whether it is 2 am or 5 am.
Just checked his LinkedIn profile. Has a solid programming background which I donāt . Would be hard to replicate the same in HW but letās see
