Worst company Iāve seen in this regard although I havenāt been at another Fintech. Eng regularly work from 10-8 or so, plus lots of on-call. Lots of unrealistic deadlines and expectations based on when things were easier/ faster when we were smaller.
Shit takes forever to deploy when youāre on-call. Release trains regularly fail and take 1-2 days to fully deploy.
Letās be clear here. On-call is opt in and you get a bonus for it so... Some days I work 7a-7 or 8p. Sometimes I work 9-5. WFH available on my team if you get your shit done. I donāt mind the times I have to work 12 hour days. Usually means something exciting is happening and Iām learning.
Only prod on-call is opt in, but there are also per team rotations like risk eng triage which is mandatory. Agree with the rest of the statement though
Depends on manager whether those hours (7a-7p) are optional or āoptional.ā If manager joined awhile back and has unrealistic expectations, prepare to have your job threatened if you donāt put those in because 12 hour days are the only way to meet them. I will say that most managers do seem reasonable, but some are definitely not.
Depends on the team and what you make of it. Some people are here for long hours, other people do a 9-5/10-6 or even less
Agreed
