We all know Apple saved human kind from big corporations in the past. They also made technology open and available to everyone. Also Steve never did anything for profit. His motto was always to improve the interaction between humans and technology.

Now because of their well built devices they are directly saving the human lives.

Apple watch saves an old man's life!!!!

      Facebook 80%
      Google 60%
      Intel 60%
      Apple 40%

Look up your facts before coming here and spewing garbage.

Are you sure Apple cannot control them? Like with every other company there are gray areas with Apple, but saying Apple cannot control them is a stretch imho.

See there are always trade offs in life. No other assembler can match the Apple's scale. The number of iPhones each year Apple orders is insane. If Apple breaks deal with Foxconn it will drastically affect stock holders, lakhs of jobs created by Apple, government taxes and literally everything. Apple is so huge and it can't take decisions in haste nor by emotions . Millions of lives(employees, users, app developers, small companies, enterprises, artists etc etc ), depend on them.

Open source is not exactly open and available.
IBM ignored technology for common people like you and me. But Steve thought PC should be available to everyone and that's what made us to use PC. Remember 1984 Apple super bowl ad? That was exactly his vision. Even Android inspired from iOS. Because Android was developed as camera OS.

Bill Gates doesn't even come near to Steve. He was copying Steve's vision. Regarding philanthropy it is his personal wish. He has own reason to give or not. We can't judge based on it. Anyways you can check Powell foundation
