the homes are substantially worse than a hotel highly inconsistent experience. reviews are worthless and extremely biased. critical ones get vetted or properties get reposted. mutual reviews are bullcrap. unsafe. this has been widely documented. while hotels have people 24/7 and daily housekeeping, Airbnb has you by yourself. you do your bed, no clean dry towels everyday, no nice shampoo or shower gel airbnb does not add value beyond creating the connection yet they charge heftily. as expensive as hotels. non transparent pricing. bogus fees they vary wildly between “hosts” (which shouldn’t even be called that because 98% of the time they are never there) they are very often an investment property with shitty , uncomfortable furniture. their beds suck. no restocked minifridge. cleaning standards are subpar. no loyalty program. they cause price inflation in regular long term rentals. summary: hotels are 10x better, professional, reliable, employ hundreds of people. airbnb are overpriced, unprofessional, unsafe, unreliable. do you agree?? why do people still use it??
IPO!
Agree, stopped using Airbnbs instead of hotels for these reasons. Once had a really bad experience with a host who threatened to throw out bags because we were checking out 30 min late. The cheaper Airbnbs are dirty as hell. And what sucks in their app/website is they bait and switch with pricing. They mention slightly lower base prices on the map and higher base price when you actually see the listing and then add all the fees and taxes to it. Don't know if this is a bug or they do it on purpose. I don't like Airbnb as a company. The experiences are ridiculously expensive. Probably they also realized that they are not a sustainable business hence went back to the basics with hotels now listing on their website. They could have solved the hotel check-in/check-out time problem by allowing anytime check-ins (like morning, late morning check-ins are still not a thing) but decided not to.
Have you tried Sonder.com
Yeah. Experience is more consistent but suffers from many of the flaws stated above. Extremely high cleaning fees not included in the price which is disingenuous. More expensive than hotels.
The model is the same as Uber for transportation. Airbnb did show that there is an alternative. Hotels used to add tons of hidden fees and had to clean up their act because of their crappy practices. It does create additional inventory and creates more options. Plenty of people used to list their homes for sxsw in Austin and leave for vacation or something. I agree that Airbnb does add additional fees which is disingenous. May have more luck with home away but they happen to be more expensive. The unit economics do improve if you more people in your party. Plenty of hotels in Europe allow only 2 people per room. In that case you might be better off with a Airbnb. You can book an Airbnb in one of the French quarter homes in Nola. A hotel wouldn’t give you that experience. Hotels specially with their points can be games to be much cheaper than Airbnb. I think price is no longer their advantage. If you want a good experience you need to shell out $$$
Yep same model, take existing laws and break them! Pretty good model
I agree. The worst thing about AirBnB model is that AirBnB has no control over what they are selling. I experienced some really bad houses (or hosts) via AirBnB and I felt weird that there’s nothing AirBnB can do about it. You just leave a negative review and that’s all.
If you contact their support, they will take you out and into a new place.
You can find crappy hotels too. Some services like Hotels.com can be pretty bad. For instance, they have maintenance hours (I believe on Saturday night) and they can’t take customer support calls during that time. It happened to us that a hotel we checked in had mold issues and rats at the pool. We couldn’t get any help from hotels.com due to maintaining of their system. For instance, with airbnb we travels to all around Dominican Republic and stayed in guest houses on luxurious properties. In Napa Valley we stayed on a family owned winery. I don’t think you should always use airbnb or always use hotels. I think balancing is the best. It really depends what you are going for. When we are on a road trip or need easy checkin at odds hours. Hotels. When we need experiences out of ordinary. Airbnb.
Airbnb does solve some problems and appeals to a specific group. People with kids needing kitchens.. Larger groups needing private space. So there is value for sure. But I do agree that if it's just two people or single person hotel may/is be cheaper and better
I used to think this. Then I found hotels with kitchens and multiple bedrooms and liked it much more. I prefer hotels and resorts.
There are not many good hotels at good locations with kitchens. Usually kitchen is basic too. And that does not work for Larger groups still
You can avoid many of those issues if you only book listing with high number of good reviews. Like 100+ reviews with 4.5+ average. If you pick cheapest place you will get a crappy place. $50/night motels are much worse than $50/night AirBnbs. AirBnb is best when you travel in a group of 5+ people. Then you can rent a house and be all together.
Lyft sucks the cars are substantially worse than a taxi highly inconsistent experience. reviews are worthless and extremely biased. critical ones get vetted or riders get reposted. mutual reviews are bullcrap. unsafe. this has been widely documented. while taxis have people 24/7 and daily service, Lyft has you by yourself. you open your own doors, no clean seats every ride, no nice shampoo or shower gel lyft does not add value beyond creating the connection yet they charge heftily. as expensive as taxis. non transparent pricing. bogus fees they vary wildly between “drivers” (which shouldn’t even be called that because 98% of the time they are never there) they are very often an investment Prius with shitty , uncomfortable seats. their seatbelts suck. no restocked central console. cleaning standards are subpar. no loyalty program. they cause price inflation in regular long term rides. summary: taxis are 10x better, professional, reliable, employ hundreds of people. lyfts are overpriced, unprofessional, unsafe, unreliable. do you agree?? why do people still use it??
Yes, it was so ironic that post came from Lyft among all the people.
WTF are you talking about FB? Trolling much? Lyft and Uber dramatically improved the transportation industry and are 10x better than taxis, and cheaper, and there’s real customer support. Airbnb may have brought down hotel prices but that’s about it.
