Airbnb and Facebook design levels

Airbnb and Facebook design, how many years of experience should you have to get L3 and L4, and what is the difference?

I got FB L4 and I’m at ~7YOE. It was apparently a “high L4” whatever that means. I think it’s definitely possible to get L5 at this YOE but I didn’t do well enough. Perhaps 2-3 years for low L4? Maybe even 1 if you do amazing at the interview.

How high does the TC go for a “high L4” at FB?

@indood. I went with another job so I didn’t get the numbers finalized but it seemed to be around 220k for design. Base ~165k. Rsus ~190k/4. Sign on ~30k. I don’t know if it could be pushed higher or if that was the max of the max. I had a really high competing offer from another faang. I don’t think I would have gotten anywhere close to that without the competing offer. On another note I have a good friend at FB who is only IC4 and she has 11 YOE. She’s great and totally a 5. From talking with her she makes less than the numbers I quoted.

IC3 at FB is considered new grad or entry level. I was promoted to IC4 at FB with <1 year of experience. It’s really relative.

It’s less about YOE and more about your perceived performance level based on your interview. If after interviewing, they think you’re performing at IC4 level, you’ll get an IC4 offer, etc
