How did Airbnb suddenly become so selective, and interview-wise being counted in same tier as G/FB?
Because we pay the same or more than G/FB, have a great culture, and have lots of really awesome engineers. And not many positions since we are still smallish. Supply/demand I guess.
I got an offer from fb and Lyft but rejected by Airbnb. Felt the interview went very well, but I suspect they didn't like me just because I don't travel all that much.
I don’t travel much either. feel like such an imposter going to work every day
Yeah, well again, this is just my theory... mainly because I read online that other people sort of got the same feeling... And because I feel like I nailed most of the interviews (most of which were Android focused). I get that they prefer swes who are passionate about their app... it is true that I haven't used their app too much, but I guess what they didn't see was how passionate I was about Android development in general. I spent 4 years at Google working tirelessly on an education app aimed at teachers (something I would never use myself as a user)... For me the passion for using an app and the passion for improving an app are two totally separate things. But again, maybe this is just their way of weeding out potentially uninterested candidates. Fortunately I interviewed with fb and lyft afterwards and they became my top choices anyway so I wouldn't have accepted their offer anyway. :)
0.6% acceptance for 2016 (from initial application to offer). No idea what it is in 2017
I heard it’s comparable to fb and the like, don’t recall actual numbers off the top of my head
