Airbnb, peaked?

Haven’t seen much news lately. Aside from international expansion and trying out new things like ‘experiences’, I feel like it’s moving too slow. What’s going on?

Edit: Also, my guess is that profitability is going well, ipo is in the horizon, and comp is good. But How about innovation, partnerships, technology aspects of the company?

Does Airbnb offer pizza and beer for lunch?

They offer way better than pizza and beer. Top notch food. And they have beer and wine on tap. But there’s too much koolaid in the company like Airbnb is a way of life.

We have a lot more to worry about than short-term rentals, but thank you.

How intense are interviews compared to others say Google?

How's the TC? Will buy out RSUs?

google interviews are all technical. we have one-two fewer technical rounds and trade them with experience deep dive and culture fit assessment. I find our interview questions a tad easier than google’s coz we expect working code on computer, so we don’t tend to ask questions with very intricate algorithm/ds.

we target median base pay and 75 percentile equity compared to peer companies, but it obviously depends on your market rate too. you can choose to get up to 25% *refresh* grant in cash. nobody does RSU buy back I think as you’d then owe taxes on everything granted.

How does that work? You need to target 130 of current TC for a decent engineer to switch in my experience. Nothing else matters

I’ve heard the “median base and 75% equity” lots of times before but I’m not sure it’s true (at least not anymore?). Maybe that’s the starting point of negotiations when someone doesn’t have competing offers or higher comp already. But in offer comparisons I’ve seen on blind we tend to have the higher numbers.

Thanks. One more question. How much time does it take usually to roll out an offer after interview? 1-2 weeks or is it longer like Google?
