Innocent until proven guilty

BluVector sparked Mar 26, 2019

Yep, the outrage is over the fact that the public now doesn’t get to determine innocence or guilt. A grand jury of 16 of Smollett’s peers provided an indictment because they felt that there was enough evidence presented to them to convict Smollett of a felony (or multiple). Under all normal circumstances this would move to a trial or result in a plea bargain. In this case neither of the above two things happened and therefore people have a right to be outraged, as you should be too. This isn’t about his innocence or guilt, it’s about the clear circumvention of our judicial process, apparently due to either political reasons, personal connections, celebrity status, or a combination of all three.

Evidence presented to Grand juries doesn't get cross examined. Lots of cases fall apart when the defendant gets to poke holes in the claims made by the state. Sometimes the whole case turns out to be BS.

How does this affect your daily life?

BluVector sparked Mar 26, 2019

Circumvention of the judicial process should concern all citizens regardless of impact on daily life.

He was able to get a deal under the table. Details are unknown. Seems like he is somewhat special or has connections. He won in life, good for him.

Amazon OVMT63 Mar 26, 2019

Or maybe the case fell apart because there was actually no case.

Everything is hidden from common people and now they sealed the case. That's typical 'fuck you, plebs, mind your business or consume fake news, if you have nothing to do' message.

16 felony counts dropped, record wiped clean and sealed? No problem with all that? Not even a slight suspicion of some sort of a privilege? 😂

Amazon OVMT63 Mar 26, 2019

Or the whole case against him was BS

Microsoft dini Mar 26, 2019

Lol sure it was BS If he was innocent why did he agree to pay court fees and do community service and not fight this in court

Apple ebnozn Mar 27, 2019

Did some homework... Smollett is friends with the Obamas and Kim Foxx has her own political aspirations. How do you go from a 16 count open-and-shut case to total dismissal? A phone call from the powers that were.

Article mentioned that Obama's chief of staff pulled the strings.

Apple ebnozn Mar 27, 2019

Let’s think logically. Why would Smollett *not* be suing the police that so egregiously defamed his character? Why not file charges against the perpetrators? Oh, because he wants to put this tragedy behind him all the while getting on a soap box about it? This stinks to high heaven.
