Have you invested in Ally CD ? The interest rate as high as 3.10 sounds interesting.

Why not get rid of your mortgage instead of savings account?

In my case, my (fixed) mortgage is 2.75% which is partially tax deductible. It doesn't make any financial sense to pay it quicker.

But you should pay tax on the 3.1%. Assuming you pay 33% tax its little over 2% you are making with CDs.

I use ally savings for more flexibility with comparable interest

Yes, and Ally is one of the worst customers experiences I’ve ever had in banking. Slowly moving my money out including letting my CDs expire. Not worth the hassle.

That’s their 5 year CD right? If you withdraw before 5 years they’ll charge a penalty of 150 days interest

You also need to be sure the interest rates won’t rise within that timeframe, otherwise you’re losing money.
