I am working on chrome extension that users can use to upvote and downvote statements made in articles/url’s. users can train their own article recommendation engine. Backend i am using node.js/mongodb. If anyone is interested in working on it together, i am specifically looking for help around ui, mostly thinking of using react.
Do you need design? Or just strictly dev at this point.
I advised a startup doing this back in 2009/2010. But they were definitely too early to the market. became a hot area more recently.
Any advice for me?
Think about product message and how to achieve trial - i.e. initial usage. The "recommend content from the internet" pitch doesn't work well in the US. Been tried by dozens/hundreds of startups, only one even slightly successful is Flipboard and they have honestly failed to pull it off. Social engagement and sharing seems much stickier. "Find people with similar beliefs and values" or "A social network based on your opinions" might be a stronger way to think about it. Maybe its a dating app based on what you believe and value (percent match / favorite articles / recently read). Recommendation alone never makes for a successful product.

Are you logging the votes accross all users? Or is data silo'd per user? This is a very cool idea at scale.
