It looks like we are still living in capitalism... but that is changing.

P.S. Next time being reached by a Google recruiter, I have to answer that "unfortunately, I'm a white man and as I heard you don't want me in your company" 😟

The company rejected the proposal. What are you complaining?

It wasn't a complain. I glad to see that business goals are valued more than abstract wishes about "equal opportunities".

"I'm a white/asian male and I didn't get an offer. A female SWE got an offer. They discriminated against me and lowered the bar for her."

This summarizes 97.6% of the comments against diversity we see on Blind.

“Shareholders and employees said Wednesday that a gender pay gap and lack of diversity could make it difficult for the company to hire and retain workers, posing a long-term risk to its ability to innovate.”

It’s really sad how nobody wants to work for Google nowadays because of their lack of diversity. Are these ppl for real?!?

Studies have proven that companies with more diverse teams make better products and make more money. So if Google did care about making money, they would ignore these white male snowflakes whining about discrimination and instead try to increase diversity.

      @usurper,
that is exactly what I wanted to say.

They already have a lot of "white whinining male snowflakes" already hired. Why do they need another one? 😎

Lol I love it: even when presented with clear evidence, the white males are arrogant enough to say "oh we can think about and solve all those problems that we've never encountered before. No need for another perspective or different viewpoint: we're so smart we have it all covered. All you need is 'good customer study and product management.'"

Like, I am a white male and I am experienced enough to recognize that I don't know everything and that my perspective is so limited that I try to seek out perspectives that are different from my own. It's just the prudent business move. Anyone who thinks they know everything from every culture and every viewpoint is just fooling themselves.

Or here’s an idea: we can buy a female mannequin for the office and use it to test Pixel Buds and VR headsets. There’s no need to involve CEO pay in the resolution of design problems that concern diameters of heads and sizes of ears. 🤦‍♂️

So now we must have quotas to hire the disabled, the mentally challenged as well as criminal convicts because we need their point of view and they’re our users too? You realize how idiotic that is? How about stupid people- we need to hire a few low IQ folks, guys, coz we can’t understand their viewpoints on how difficult it is to find the menu drop down!

Lol, this article pretty much disproves conservative paranoia about industry leadership having a political agenda to push “diversity”.

50% of the worlds population is Indian or Chinese. Are you also proposing a 50% representation for them?

I personally have a preference towards qualified and competent hires. I don’t care about sex/race etc. If 70% of the CS graduates are male the law of large numbers says we should see the same in our engineering interns population unless there’s some form of discrimination.
      Jun 7, 2018
    • Google usurper
Or maybe many of those 70% aren't actually that competent
      Jun 7, 2018
    • Microsoft oh snap
Yes, I expect a certain percentage to not be competent in either group. But I don’t believe that a group is on average more competent than the other. Discrimination is bad even if it stars off with good intentions.

Microsoft, you misunderstood my point. Businesses, when they do have DI initiatives are pushing diversity for business related reasons; employees tend to push it for political (or values) reasons when they support diversity. This is against claims by the right that there is some kind of left-wing conspiracy by these big companies.

They care about diversity as far as it helps their bottom line. IMO, lack of diversity is a political problem but diversity initiatives are just a superficial band-aid. Tax businesses and build first class public schools, housing, increase university facilities and educators to allow more students. Without that any claims of merit-based hiring are just hogwash and pining for maintaining a messed-up status quo.

No, Taxing is evil. Do you not know the government is the most inefficient way to do anything? They are bureaucratic and burn money. I’d rather donate to universities than pay taxes to those lethargic crooks if I had a choice.

Google and other tech companies are terrified of being sued by the EEOC. High tech has received warnings on the past. It has nothing to do with their innate desire to hire unqualified people. It's a PR spin

Since when employment and promotion are no longer merit based but have something to do with your skin color/gender/sex orientation which basically says nothing about your qualification of doing the work?
    Jun 7, 2018 4
    • Credit Karma EllisDee25
When was it ever simply based on abstract merit? Especially when many tech companies have been referral based?
      Jun 7, 2018
    • Google / Eng MtvSh
Bacause referrals have a much higher possibility of better qualification. But they still have to pass the interview to get hired and perform well to get promoted.
      Jun 7, 2018
    • Credit Karma EllisDee25
Lol, But “diversity initiatives” don’t require a candidate interview, reviews, or promo process?
      Jun 7, 2018
    • Google / Eng MtvSh
They require that but if you tie diversity target with pay then things get distorted very soon.
On the flip side, non diversity fresh graduate candidates have to have much stronger qualifications to even get a chance for interview. I have submitted referrals and done interviews and this is what I can tell.
      Jun 7, 2018
  • No one wants me either. In the name of diversity, these companies are either playing a game or don't understand it well.
