Always choose Microsoft over Amazon for new grad?

Amazon Nahhhhh

Worked as an intern at Amazon, really love the products I was working on. Got return offer. I’m going to interview with Microsoft anyway. I’m originally from Seattle, and I wanna stay here. Amazon is not a favorable choice on Blind, but I actually enjoyed it. Amazon may be good for early career growth since they have so many new projects going on. I have friends working at Microsoft, and they said the culture is very laid back and they didn’t learn much. Many of them went to other companies after they finished internship. Not sure if it’s true. Any thoughts? I also want to hear from MSFT people.

Some reasons to choose amazon over msft
    1) uses more industry standard tech; msft uses a lot of their own internal tools for many tasks. This isn't transferable knowledge when you leave
    2) fast pace is great for learning; msft has fast paced teams too, I guess amazon has more of those
    3) ease of switching teams ; at msft it's a full loop again lol
    4) the stock is fire

    I'm glad I went with Amazon 2 years ago(stock price 730$)

No. The breadth and depth of Amazon in both tech and business is unmatchable.

If you work on cool things like HoloLens or Azure Core then Microsoft could be a good choice for learning.

The culture at ms is laid back in the sense that people aren't generally looking for reasons to fire you to fit some quota.

Theses people saying the breadth and depth of Amazon are so awesome have never worked at ms. Ive worked in all parts of the stack including firmware and assembler, programming languages, cloud, ui, video streaming, ml/ai, connected vehicles, OS optimization, and robotics (and probably some things I've forgotten). I've worked directly with enterprise and consumer customers, device oems, and car manufacturers.

That said, as with pretty much every company, your experience will be team dependent. There are probably teams at Amazon where you'll learn more (if that's what you care about) than some teams at Ms and vice-versa.

Amazon is brutal, so there’s a ton of detractors. If you performed and you enjoyed it, nothing wrong with staying

Really depends on the team for msft. Do the interview and secure the team and offer and ask around about the org. Some of the teams are doing pretty exciting stuff (like C+AI)

Is it true that people needs to flight for good projects? How’s the culture in general? Laid back? Thanks!

Do what you liked/loved/enjoyed. If you can go back to the same team at Amazon - go for it. Don't let FOMO dictate your decisions
