I was the only product designer hired as an IC on a team for a few months till we hired a lead designer. (I have 2.5 IC YoE fyi) It was hecktic but I managed to pursuade product managers, get me and my team's work delivered, get products out the door, and put together documentation. Once my team got a lead designer, the burden of project management was given to the new lead, but my boss asked if I could take some of the projects back to lessen their load. Soo after awhile my workflow went back to more of the same, still all the IC work yet some project management work. My lead doesn't do any documentation, leaves that to me, and is 90% time in meetings, 10% time actual design. What are lead designer or principle designer roles responsible for? Did I just become lead too, since also I'm delegating work to ICs (not designers, but still) and project managing?
