And if I do I might just check green party. Honestly, I think politics are rotten at the core and that the people at the very top and behind the scenes are actually on the same side and control everything. As much as I want to believe that our votes count I know that whatever the guys up top want to happen is going to happen irrespective of our wishes. Leaving the bottom sect of society to argue/battle over all of these matters. I feel like generally many Americans are oblivious as to how corrupt politics really run and how manipulative they can be. Although I do feel like many immigrants definitely understand where I’m coming from as many of our countries back home are corrupt as well, so this is not our first rodeo. What do you guys think? Update: I enjoy that we are able to able to share our views in a civil and respectful manner. YOE 7, TC 320k
Even if you dislike the choices, actually especially if you do, you have to show up. Spoil the ballot if need be, but show up.
I can understand this perspective. But like it’s so disheartening just seeing how we get the short end of the stick no matter what way we try to spin it. Like I feel like this Democrat Republican crap is just created to divide people, to give people the illusion that they are in “support” of a group. When I think neither at the bottom dictates shit. Just my opinion.
It’s not about the results it’s about your civic duty.
Depends on TC. Speaking of which ... Where's yours?
Real question is how come you have FAANG TC at HP. 320k at 7 YOE? How is this possible? Teach us.
It’s decent money. I came from a high paying job prior to this as well as uplevel. It’s legacy here but man I make 320k to work 15-20 hours a week so I’m in no position to complain.
Only times I've ever voted I've just gone down the list and voted for anyone without a D or an R next to their name. If more people did that then 3rd party candidates would have higher vote percentages, and maybe people would feel like they could vote for who they wanted to win instead of who had the best chance of beating the person their news source had told them to hate I know it won't REALLY change anything, it's just what I do
Solid take. You bring up a good point. I feel like news propaganda controls so many people it’s truly fascinating. And I agree that people vote for the person most likely to bear the person they hate. Again this goes to show how poor and futile the voting system is. It’s very sad.
It's not just the media. They are just the most consumer facing portion of a multi billion dollar political duopoly. People, organizations, and businesses making bank on partisan conflict whether the pony they are backing wins or loses
This is not a productive attitude. The winners and losers may not have a big enough impact on your life to make you vote but it has huge impacts on many people. You should vote for the least bad person on the ballot and then focus the other 99.999% of the year on activism towards your preferred goals.
I agree it may not be the most productive attitude. But I swear if I saw it have a positive impact on anybody less fortunate I would vote for them. Our issues continued to get worse over the years irrespective of the president in regard to student debt, healthcare, infrastructure especially in California. I mean I’ve seen these guys make negative impact. I remember Obama saying he was going to take troops out of Afghanistan only to send more in. Like it really showed me that all of these guys are just figureheads. Again, if there’s a candidate that I believe can create tangible REALISTIC changes for people I would vote in a heartbeat, but I don’t think that’s the case. Just my 2 cents.
Millions of people died for our right to vote
Freaking check Green Party every time then. Whenever you don’t vote you’re just adding further to other would-be Green Party voters’ belief that not enough people will vote Green Party to be meaningful, making it more likely they in turn give up, or worse, vote for the presumed nominee in one of the major parties.
Unfortunately that’s usually what ends up happening. But to your point, realistically, they would never let the Green Party win anyways.
Who is “they”? I’ll admit there was a brief phase in my life when I thought Democrats and Republicans might be secretly working together to control the government and all their petty disagreements mere theater, but I’ve come to realize most of them sincerely believe in what they’re doing, it’s just that they’re wrong about loads and loads of stuff. Plus it’s extra hard to imagine that a sinister cabal powerful enough to pull the government’s strings and smart/careful enough to stay secret would have chosen a 2017-20 president whose behavior is essentially random. Why would they deliberately undermine virtually every institution underlying their own power base?
Extend your ethos to the maximum: what happens in a society where no one votes? Not saying your position is good, bad, right, wrong. Just curious what you think it’d be like if everyone took your approach to this, and didn’t vote.
Interesting question. I don’t think my position is good or bad, it just is what it is. I also don’t hope everyone takes my approach, it’s just that I don’t think we control anything, let alone me “backing” one of these crooks just because people and the media say so.
Oh! Oh! I think your position is bad.
Vote for the least of all evils maybe? Not voting means that the worst of evils can come into power, and that happened in 2016.
I guess that would be an option. But Hillary? Come on. This is exactly what I’m talking about. It’s like giving me an option to burn myself to death or electrocute myself to death. Both are terrible. If anyone thinks one is better than the other then they are misinformed. Trump is just more vocal.
Hillary...I mean yeah, but definitely, definitely better for the country than Trump. This guy is going to make us bankrupt and works like 3.5 hours a week.

I think politics are rotten because of dumbasses who don't vote. Oh.... Wait.... Nevermind.
The delusion is real
Voter turnout for 2016 was 55% and yet you think you’re the only one who doesn’t vote. And we’re the delusional ones. 🤔
