Switch to software. Hard to believe doing what you love is worth that level of stress.

If it's worth the stress, more power to ya. Just hope you're doing well bud.

I was making 80k base in the Midwest about 12 years ago and considered upper middle class. 80k in the Bay Area is unfathomable, especially for an EE/ME/CS engineer.

Realized that my previous comment wasn’t particularly helpful, so here goes —> Check out ‘Zero Motorcycles’ in Scotts Valley. They’re in need of an ME(I have no contacts there).

Not sure if that’s something you’d be interested in, but the product is awesome - the Tesla of motorcycles. Pay-wise, it won’t be as much as Silicon Valley companies, but should be significantly more(double) than 80k. Maybe a good place to test the waters outside of the power distribution industry? Good luck!

Yes, you are underpaid. I’m in the same industry, 5 YOE, doing similar work, but without a degree. I’ll make $100k salary this year,

Are you working for a utility? Seems to be underpaid for the EPC or services market.
