Why can’t we have this here? > Under new regulations, a commercial in the UK could portray a girl becoming a mathematician or a boy growing up to be a ballet dancer — but not the other way around. https://twitter.com/voxdotcom/status/1141197666329726981
Why do we care about U.K.?
That have some of the best hate speech laws in the world
Because it’s stupid. And it already happens all the time voluntarily. Why would you want that mandated by regulations?
Because it is the right thing to do to ban hate speech. Stereotypes have no place in a civilized discourse
Because we have actual freedom over here. Go immigrate to the U.K. if you like it that much.
this new rule also bans ads that “connect physical features with success in the romantic or social spheres.” LOL - so they’re banning reality???
They can pass all the laws that they want - I still will never want to hook up with an overweight snaggle-toothed British feminist
This is one of the worst ideas ever
Whatever... Regulate the hell out of it, too much ads revenue for G/FB/media already. I just hope they won't regulate private speech or thought, if so we'll have a second wave of pilgrims coming from the UK.
Regulations don't change public perception. It should be the other way around. Of the people find such stereotypes as offensive, media companies will automatically stop making them.
So no more ballerinas? Would be a interesting experiment to see if there is a big drop in girls taking ballet if no girls are allowed to see that women can take ballet. Why not show girls and boys doing both equally or something.
They also can’t have bacon depicted in subway ads. I don’t know what the fuck that place has turned into.
Epic stupidity
