Been at Google for 2 years, recently promoted to L4 with TC around 240k. Total exp: 3+ years Got an offer from LinkedIn and Amazon. Amazon is somehow really interested and gave a really really high offer, they are saying high L5 and promo should be fast. Both offers in bay area: Amazon - 170k base, 150k stocks over 4 years, 150k sign-on over 2 years. LinkedIn - 160k base, 250k stocks over 4 years, 10% yearly bonus, 50k sign-on. Will my salary at Amazon remain same since there are no refreshers till 4 years and base is high apart from any stock appreciation?
Yea.... Amazon promotion rates are haphazard at best. If they are telling you promotion should be fast then try to negotiate for L6 now.

Yeah that’s why they can’t consider me for L6 even though recruiter slated me for it. YOE is less, by fast promo I meant within 1-1.5 years. The compensation is definitely not typical L5.
Sounds like you'll make more at Google. That Amazon equity package is a joke. I just got 150k as my *annual* refresher at L5. Equivalent package over 4 years would be 600k.
Not to quibble, but there is a big difference between 150k refresher each year and a 600k rsu grant at time 0. 150k refresher is legit though, congrats.
They vest over 4 years right? Or are you saying you got 600k refreshers? I know with overlapping it will be higher.
You make 240k at Google, and from what I can tell, Amazon offered you 255k? I’m summing the sign on and equity and vesting over 4 years to get that calculation. The LinkedIn offer comes in around 250k as well. Google >>> LinkedIn > amazon. Stay at Google.
Yeah comp is not the major factor. Obviously current TC doesn’t have any sign-on. I just want to explore something else. Maybe I will look for switching teams internally.
Look at Uber/Lyft/Airbnb/Stripe. LinkedIn and amazon are big steps down for same comp.
Google has regular refreshers at all levels. Amazon, when I was there, didn't. So take that into account before you go to Amazon. Ask recruiter to tell you expected annual refresher. And what percentage of people get it.
Feel like Amazon’s stock is a little low (base is very high for L5 though)…and LinkedIn offers SWE (very high SWE comp though) rather than senior SWE. If I were you and really hate my Google job, i would choose to go, otherwise I would probably stay for 1/2 more year(s) and get much higher comp later on.
You say Amazon gave a really high offer, but it's kind of the same as your current TC.... And anything they say about promotion rate is just bs to make you join. It has absolutely zero truth
How's Amazon's offer really really high? It's pretty average. I got more than that few months ago but didn't switch.

Your comps are not that much different. Instead, you should think about potential to grow your RSU value while they are not vested. You are getting 150k of RSU at Amazon, while LinkedIn gives you 250k. Assuming both grow equally, which is going to be worth in 4 years? Note that Amazon and Google dropped in value 30% to 40% from their recent highs. MSFT dropped 10%.
