I’m considering between two teams. One in NYC is the Self-service and performance advertising and one in Seattle is the advertising engineering & development. Anyone has any thoughts which one is good/bad? It’s SDE II position. I’m going to be back-end engineer
Go to Seattle, there are not many internal opportunities in NYC if you want to switch teams
So does that mean that the org has changed a lot and i should go with the Eng & Dev in Seattle instead?
Yeah I'd stay away from SSPA. All the PE's left and pretty much all the sde3's as well. Not sure if any new ones have been hired
What’s PE?
Same TC?
Seattle is slightly lower as the recruiter said it has to be adjusted to COL
Oh ok well aside from work and team (since there are enough of inputs regarding that), if you are single and in 20s, I would pick NYC. You would literally have enough friends with benefits to switch up every night with your TC from amazon. I assume it's at least 200k and girls go crazy for guys with that amount of TC. You could probably bang everyone at the high school reunion too. Lucky to be you
What about ad serving and measurement team ?
SSPA is a shithole. The director is a piece of shit and I'm honestly surprised he hasn't been fired yet. He put a PE on a pip because he wasn't a yes man, and apparently there were a bunch of race related issues as well. Super fucked up situation. The PE ended up winning the appeal and switched orgs and a lot of the engineers left with him. They've been trying to fill heads pretty desperately and as a result, they've significantly lowered the bar as well.
define significantly lowered hiring bar... from which perspective was the difficulty lying in at?
He still there? Are there any good teams in the org?
