About to join Amazon. As one of the perks, I was told that employees are reimbursed up to $50 monthly in cellphone reimbursement. How exactly does this work ? 1) I am on a T-Mobile family plan with few other people. The bill generated is not straight forward and we have to divide the total to get each member's share. How do they check the amount to be reimbursed ? 2) Also, If I decide to buy a new phone in my plan, can that be included as well? Any Inputs are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
You can submit $50/mo for phone with the bill (is doubt anyone scrutinized it much), but it’s a manual process and a huge pain and so hardly anyone bothers to take advantage of it.
Thanks! But thats the thing, the bill I get is of about $200 for 7 people.
what’s the thing? so what?
Up to $50 a month of *business* use can be expensed. Checking work emails, pager, and business phone calls count as business use. If your expense amount is under $25, you don't need a receipt. Otherwise, you must submit an invoice to be approved. Your manager is the primary person who would approve, though there is a team in India which does audits.
Thanks! And the team in India does the Auditing of Business calls etc ?
Of expense reports. I haven't seen them go into much depth, but maybe they do if something gets flagged.
I’ve been on my parents family plan for 2.5 years since joining amzn. My mom pays bill. I have submitted expense every month since joining, so far netting $1500
I'm in a similar TMobile family plan... My bill is ~$350 every month, all I do is submit a screenshot of my online account ... the guideline States it will have to show your name or the phone number
Never seen Amazon and perks in the same sentence before. The yearly holiday party does come with two free drink tickets, I guess that is a perk!
This is news. Is this the end of an era of frugality?
It is much more frugal to have your employees submit an expense report each month for the use of their personal device than handing out work phones to everyone. Also most don’t even bother to submit the expense.
Lol no. Because submitting that expense report is a pain the ass. I never do it. I wish I did because I'm leaving money on the table
1) I am not sure they do a thorough check but include the bill and try to be honest. The cap is $50 nonetheless. 2) This is not part of the policy but you may be able to get away with it. I do this every month and have been doing it since I joined in 2015.
Wow cool
Sorry mate there is no perks like that. If you are in London then you can very optionally be given a company phone but that is more of an exception than a rule. If I were you I will get the person who is making this promise to you to give it in an email.
The person making the promise is literally reciting one of the most basic elements of the US Expense policy: $50 per month in cellphone reimbursement. There’s nothing to ask for in writing and no one-off promises being made, as this is how it is for all US employees who use their phone for work.
Ah so we differ from US in another aspect then! Thanks for clarifying :)
