I recently left Amazon as UX designer (worked 5 years) and a lot of agencies reached me out. I am curious it is weird decision if I go to Google as a contractor. I am a UX designer and 5 years experiences. Any advice?
If you work at Google as a contractor, then you don’t really work on Google, you work on a body shop instead. So, it is more like body shop vs Amazon than Google vs Amazon.
Its different cuz ure an ux
This is completely untrue. Contractors ( TVC’s ) are treated like SHIT at Google. Can’t compare that to employees, but at least they get free food which is nice 😂 you only get 🍌 at Amazon
Yeah, I sadly agree. Just looking at our private Google group, I can see a lot of TVC hate.
Don’t do it, unless you enjoy pain and suffering that comes with being treated as a second class citizen.
And careful how you describe yourself on linkedin. Googlers are encouraged to SNITCH on you if you misrepresent! "Since TVCs are not Alphabet employees, they may not represent themselves as such on resumes or external sites (e.g. social media sites like LinkedIn ... If Soo-jin feels comfortable, she can address it with the temp directly. She can also report it anonymously through [redacted], or email [redacted] who can work with their employer to resolve." https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/dec/11/google-tvc-full-time-employees-training-document
Yup, that is part of the training material that all full-time employees have to take. Basically, TVCs can’t put “Google” as their employer in any social media. We have a go/ link where we can report violators.
Don’t go TVC at Google! Push for more!
Did you take this role? How did you find it?
I'm not a tvc but I'd imagine it's better to be a 1st tier member of a 2nd tier company than a 2md tier member of a 1st tier company
Lots of ftes are not really first tier and vice versa
