Would you like it? What chance do you think Toronto has? I think it would be a great move because Canada has a lot of untapped potential, and immigration is much better than the cluster fuck that is the US H1. Imo immigration alone should be a very compelling reason to put HQ2 in Toronto.
Toronto wins almost in every aspect except that it’s not in the US. My guess is HQ2 would be somewhere close to DC for better political influence, but I’m sure amazon is planning to expand in all those cities in the shortlist regardless and this bidding war is simply a play to get those cities to bow down to them. Disclaimer: Canadian here 🇨🇦
Trump would go ape shit if they went to Toronto. Almost worth it. 🍿
Low key just build it in downtown SF and see what happens with the zoning laws.
I somewhat believe San Francisco housing and public transit issues could be fixed with a giant like Amazon.
Tacoma is the best choice ever
It would piss off Trump, so for that reason alone it would be worth it. Many on Atlanta don't want it anyway. Sentiment seems to be very negative on HQ2 except those in tech here, anecdotally. Most of the mayoral candidates last fall were speaking negatively of it, or at least of the need to "manage" them. Without public support, it's hard to see them risking it.
It doesn’t matter if the locals don’t want to be gentrified
The locals were gentrified years ago. That's why they don't want it: no more room for benefit. There's already an organic farmers market and artisinal coffee shop on every corner.
It’ll be Atlanta. It’s prime gentrification material.
Nope they blew it on the gun control response a few weeks back. DC or Dallas.
Atlanta is already fully gentrified in any area Amazon would choose to locate itself.

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Amazon can pay 60% of salary in Toronto compared to here so yes, it is possible given its frugality philosophy. On the other hand, most of people want to work in US unlike your wish so it will be a bad move. There is a reason EA was born in Canada but moved to US.
Naturally there are exceptions, but for the most part the majority of the people in Toronto are getting paid 60% because they didn’t get into Google, etc. Also we all know that the interview process isn’t great and there are lots of false negatives. But it’s not completely bogus. The people working at Google are in general a different caliber than those working at TD Canada Trust. i.e. you can pay 60%, but then you’d be dipping into a different pool.
The same Microsoft pays a lot less in Canada despite higher cost of living. I guess Google would also pay similarly less. Is it not?
